I've got a 98 XJ. The full-time 4wd will not work, its like its in neutral and i live in a snowy area so it would be nice to have.

what transfer cases will work from what years?

I can get some cheap NP's from earlier model cherokee's, will these work?

Can you even feel the shift? If not you may have to tinker with the linkage......just a thought

T case

But if that pin doesnt fall in the mesh into the Tcase it would be like it was in neutral wouldnt it?

Or does it have a different kinda of T-Case than a wrangler.?

Any 23 spline NP 231 will work in place of your 242. Just make sure you have the correct speedo sending unit. As for why your current case won't work in full time, I have no idea. Just use part time when appropriate and run it like that or pull the case, split it open and investigate.

They way I read it is, He doesn't have 4wd but has 2wd.
The pre 96 xj I believe are 21 spline and not 23 spline. So they wouldnt swap in.

Nope. The 21 spline tcases are from before 90. Any xj case from 91 up will bolt up. There might be some DS differences if he has the full time case though.

to clarify. I have 2wd, 4wd part time, and 4wd low. whenever I shift into 4wd full-time it wont move. I can hear a slight ticking noise. But the Jeep will not move just like as if it were in neutral.

I have a ford 8.8 rear end and the factory dana 30 up front. 4.56 gears and no lockers.

I reached under the Jeep earlier and I have about a 1/4 turn of play in both the front and rear driveshafts if that makes any difference.

the linkages seem to be fine. only problem I found was actually on my transmission, bad neutral safety switch. but thats all

correct me if i am wrong but isnt 4wd full time on that tcase computer controlled? and if you are worried enough to use 4wd full time you mine as well put it in part time

just the way i see it

no it is a viscous clutch IIRC.

im not too worried about it this summer, just for winter. I live at the top of Beech Mountain, they don't plow my road. It gets pretty hairy sometimes. I think it's also nice to have everything in working order on my Jeep
