So they are widening the main road to our neighborhood and are taking the first houses out on either side. The first house on the left in our neighborhood is identical to ours and it has some stuff that we could use. Since the house is empty and being prepped to be torn down, how can we go about getting the stuff off the house we want legally?

Well I'm sure someone owns it. Just because its being torn down doesn't mean someone doesn't magically have ownership of the house now.

I know that someone owns it but in a case where the city is taking over....wasn't sure on the coarse of how to get in contact with the people who could possibly let us take some stuff.

Like said, talk to the wrecking company. They are the ones that "own" the "scrap "when it comes down.

I pilfered an old school that was being torn down. I talked to the supervisor of the wrecking crew and he gave me the permission.

My former Co. worked a lot of Demo.s, & I picked out a lot of stuff. Mostly shelving [wire type] & brackets. Now days, Habitat usually gets to remove any salable items. The Demo Co. or operator, gets the copper,if any is left!
