OK first its a 99 7.3, 4" exhaust, tuner, intake. Question, this winter my trans temp stayed around 140° and EGT was around 400° ( prob is in down pipe after turbo.....I know!!) OK so now for some reason trans is at 150° and EGT is at 250° maybe 300° any ideas for the sudden change? Thanks!

hotter it is out side the hotter your trans will run
as far as EGT you will not get a accurate reading were you got your prob
also do you still have just the oem trans cooler ??? & what brand guages do you have if they are glow shift that could be your problem

There was a plug on the side of the trans were a sending unit would be. I installed the prob there.

Yea I know the location of the EGT prob is no good, the drastic change was what I was worried about....and yes (head down!) They are glow shift! .....I know!!!! I am ordering better ones! As for the trans cooler it has the updated aux. Cooler from Ford, don't know if that's good or bad, I heard using a 6.0 cooler was good, but the Ford dealer said the one I had was fine. Idk.

Part of the change in EGT could possibly be your EBPV (exhaust back pressure valve). Was the EGT at idle? In colder temps it will shut until the engine is warm (if it is functioning correctly). They tend to not work exactly as intended so it could be staying shut longer than it's supposed to. It functions in the same manner as an exhaust brake (butterfly in the exhaust just behind the turbo). You can also put a controller on the truck and use it as an exhaust brake.

Sorry to hijack your thread but...

Solar, I've heard about modifying the ebpv as an exhaust brake. I figured it might be a good way to ruin something. Is this mod a safe option and would you recommend doing it? I've heard about a toggle and somehow making it operate off of throttle.

Hijack over.

mine has been moded for a few years, no issues..

I have it wired on a three position toggle.

Down works off the brake peddle about a 2 second delay

Center off

Up on about a 2 second delay.

I found a schematic using my powers of googlefoo..

I've done a few the same way as Jeff B has his. It works pretty good for the money. If you want throttle control, on a 99-03 truck you can tap into the IVS (idle validation switch) at the throttle pedal, and on a 94-97 truck you can use a PacBrake throttle switch, or you can buy a stand alone controller from someone such as SP Diesel or BD Diesel.
