Ive read that teflon is not to be used on hydrolic fittings, but my ram leaks just a little and i cant tighten it anymore. Has anyone else used it?

you can use teflon tape on your application.

We don't use it due to the tape compressing & coming out inside the hydraulic system & getting stuck in the EDC valves. Hell I have seen it screw up stem valves, clog orifice fittings & all kinds of odd ball crap..

i wasnt going to go far down the threads, maybe leave a thread open just so it doesnt go in to the ram.
thanks. will get some tape tonight.

It's got to be either cross-threaded or the seating surfaces of the hose or ram are munged up and need to be repaired. The threads don't do any sealing, and it will probably still weep past on the hose side of the fitting.

"37° Flared Fittings (JIC): JIC (Joint Industry Conference) seals are obtained by the mating of two beveled metal surfaces. The function of the threads is simply to draw these two surfaces together. This style is used particularly in high pressure systems. As illustrated below, both the bevel on the male and the seat in the female are machined to 37°"

What ^ said. Pull the fitting apart and make sure everything is super clean. Even a little piece of dust or grit can cause the surfaces to gap and leak out.

i have check and cleaned them. i'll have to see if my brother can cut and make me a 90* male on my hose. right now my hose is female and ram is female, so i had to use a 90* male/male.

Not that you don't know what you're doing, but you didn't buy the male to male at a hardware store did you? Sure it's not 45* flare?

Most rams use an oring fitting to seal them, sure thats not the issue?

OK, I was thinking that your were refering to a pipe thread fitting in your cylinder IE; fitting would be 3/8" to JIC6. Thinkin the pipe thread was leaking. If it's the actual JIC threads that will not seal, get a new fitting & put a new end on the hose. (I didn't read all the responces) The JIC fitting is designed to have a matted seal. Just replace it..

Like Jeff said,
Replace the fitting, both on the cylinder and make a new hose, if jic leaks and it is not loose then toss it. You can not use any sealents on jic fittings.
