Tell me why not to buy a 1999 Chevy 1500

5.7? Is that an OBS truck?

If you love it, and the price is right, buy it.....but all things being equal I would hold out for an LS in the same body style.

Guy wants stupid $$$$$

It's apparently a K1500 w a g80, w about 110 k. It's overpriced, but I've had a 98 S10, 4.3 that has been spanked for more than a decade and it still runs strong w 210k

I was going to say the rockers are rusted out, but it's not an NBS truck.

Hell...they still might be anyway :D

As the owner of a 99 Silverado, you'll get tired of owning a split year truck every time you get parts. They'll look up a Silverado, but you'll have a K1500. It was the other way around for me.

It's been for sale for months for stupid $$$$$, the guy has recently dropped the price but it's still high IMO. I've seen pics and spoken to him on the phone and he seems honest.....18mpg hwy, everything works and not much rust from the pics. There's some underneath but the body is fine, minus a few small dents that I don't give a shit about. I'm an all go/no show driver. The price is half what I've seen for newer, pretty trucks w twice the miles.

....also my brother has a 2000 suburban w over 200k that runs like a scalded dog and tows his 21' center console back and forth from the coast several times every summer.

I will never own another truck that isn't a GMT-400. I have an 88 RCLB Sierra with a Vortec 350 swap and a 95 K2500 Burb that is in the process of an 8.1L/NV4500 swap.

I've owned all different eras of GM trucks, the OBS trucks are by far my favorites.

In the family we have had an 88 RCSB, 90 RCSB, 94 extended cab, and a 96 extended cab. All 5.7, 4wd, and they were all good reliable trucks.

Except the 90 was cursed. My brother was in 3 or 4 accidents in it, none of which were his fault, in a 9 month span.

Why not buy it?

....because it's 20 years old, isn't rare, doesn't command a high price, and 110k miles is only low mileage in context of the trucks age.

If you can get a fair deal on it, cool. You said it's overpriced, so pass.

I owned a 98 Tahoe with the 350. I think I only had two problems with it. IIRC, the first one was the intake manifold gaskets leaking coolant or something. The second problem was the distributor drive gear. I bought it with 65k miles on it, and sold it with about 150k.

I have a 99 Suburban. Intake gasket at about 185K, And now at 240K, it's missing. Tuned it up about 20K ago(which was it's first! Everything on it was from the factory), so I am thinking it's the distributor. I replaced the stock 10 bolt rear with a semi float 14 bolt. The limited slip works great(did in the 10 bolt also)
Had this vehicle for about 8 years. Over all, I can't complain.

I have a 99 tahoe, biggest pain in the ass is trying to bleed out the abs manifold, very difficult. Also issues with the intake manifold leaking. Once fixed it's been a good truck.

check for a sloppy rear pinion.

also... that gov-lock ever been rebuilt?

Nothing wrong with the vortec 5.7s.. just not as much power as the LS. Not much goes wrong except for trans failures and the injectors/pressure regulator failing... Oh and distributors wearing out.

and intake gaskets and zinc coolant fitting, power steering pump shaft breakage,

A 99 Silveraydo getting 18mpg, with nothing broken and nothing rusted out? Does not compute.

Intake gasket and water pump replaced.......no rust on the body @ all, some on the rear end and the frame...

It made trips to and on the beach each each year and it was rinsed when he got home.

check right side front of intake, there is a heater hose that connects to a ZINC fitting, make sure this hasn't been replaced with a steel fitting, its there to act as a sacrificial anode in the cooling system, if it is steel you'll be replacing the heater core soon, hopefully the cooling system has been flushed of the hateful DEXCLOG and filled something more useable.....
If you buy it, replace the fuel pump module (sending unit and pump in one piece) and fuel filter, you'll save that tow bill right away. Don't try to drop the tank, the speed nuts will break and you'll end up pulling the bed anyway..... it only has to come up and back enough to sit on rear tire and bumper....
Also look at rear brake line on driver side frame where it kicks up, you will be replacing that soon too....

there is probably more I don't remember but those would be the concerns up front

Well ya'll didn't convince me {edit} or did convince me!....I bought the Unicorn today!

It was in better condition than I thought it would be, The guy gave me new parts to fix a cracked exterior door handle, a box of 8 oil filters, a new carquest rotor(he put one on one side and a new caliper on the other a month ago chasing a warped rotor,so I just need to get another caliper to replace the warped rotor. Drove to Salisbury to buy it and worried it might be a wasted trip. Runs out nice, shifts well, steers well, got 18.1 mpg coming back to apex!
.........now I just need a tonneau. I'm also going to put some train horns under the hood.

Despite the comments above or numerous others in threads basically asking the same thing you have about XXX vehicle being worth $XXX. I’m a firm believer if you want it, have the funds, and can come to terms of the sale, let ‘er rip. It looks like a damn nice truck! Congrats.

Wait you paid $7,500 for it?

I've been looking for a used truck for almost 2 years. I looked @ 3 in that time that were not worth the asking price, that I refused to pay. One jackass told me he had the title in hand, when I told him I'd by it, after looking it over and a test drive, he said the title was not in his name, but it was signed off to him and I would have to pay to get the title fixed:flipoff:.

I found this truck the first time I ever looked on the autotrader website, about 10 days ago. Contacted the owner a few days later and spoke to him a few times/on the fence about his price.I finally told him I'd pay his price if everything was true about my questions. I worried for a week at least if he would sell it before I could get there. do to my work schedule, and worried I might drive 2hrs to look at a truck and not make a deal if it had some untold problem/s. I did'nt sleep well for a week....now it's like a load off my chest.
