Temperature Sender Location

I need some thoughts on this...

I am considering the idea of relocating my temperature gauge sender. The original sender is located just below the thermostat housing at the front of the engine. Since I am now using a sender from a 2.5 engine (to match gauge), that is longer than the original, it is very close to the fan.

My preferred option would be to locate it in the intake manifold.

The alternate option, which may be better, would be to locate it in a CTO port.

Anybody else done this? Your feedback appreciated! :)(root beer)

would a water outlet from a 4.0 fit? if so, it has a bung for a temp sender/switch

why no put an elbow on it to get it going up instead of sticking straight out?

Lee, I'm not so sure that would work right with a temperature sender. Unlike an oil pressure sender which monitors pressure which can be accurately transferred through an elbow, a temperature sender needs to have the probe placed pretty much directly in the flow of whatever it is monitoring. An elbow would locate it out of the actual flow. Also, I dont know if the probe would clear the inside of the elbow.

Might be the best idea is just to leave it where it's at and get a little more creative with the wiring.
