Termites or carpenter ants

Mother in law has an old bench that belonged to her grandparents. We put it in storage when we moved in with them. Now that we moved out, we got it back out of storage and put in there apartment. Noticed this new damage that wasn't there previously. I think it's carpenter ants, but I don't know enough to say with any certainty.

Anyone know for sure?

I see no activity of any sort, so I'm thinking whatever did it moved on or got killed by some of the pesticide treatment I did.

My guess is termites. It looks like they built their little dirt tunnel right up the leg and had a feast.

Termites. Ants won't bring in mud and dirt.

Carpenter ants generally eat into soft dead or rotting wood. And they push most of the sawdust out of the hole.
