Pretty sure I got 'em on the wood fence that surrounds my yard. I'm not sure what treatment was done on the house when it was brand new in 2005, but we opted not to continue the service. Maybe this would be a good time to get terminix or similar back and start the yearly inspections. What ya think? At the last house, it was getting to be $150/year, that is why we stopped.

Nothing does a better job of terminating termites than an "air gap" between dirt and wood... They don't jump too well. I see wood touching ground here??? Pop the whole fence section off and raise it 3-4 inches... Future problems solved.
Existing problem... use a scraper to scrape the protective cover they built off and they will evacuate. They don't care for daylight much either...

Another Plus... NEVER have wood touching concrete unless it is treated (Code).

Bleach works well and soaks into their dirt cover too if needed.

I called Terminex about preventative crap on my house. It was going to cost 2k initially and $175 a year after that. I told them to sell that crap to someone else.

Southern states sells Telstar P it runs around 30 bucks for a pint of concentrate. It's a barrier termiticide, so once it on they won't cross it. Also you can get termador from amazon it works to kill the colony when the workers bring it back. Termador sc is fipronil which is the same stuff that the terminix uses. The big chain pest companies are a scam. They charge you 1000 bucks to treat a house and then sell you a warranty for 150 a year. But if the treatment is done properly it will last 10+ years easy.

If it were my fence I would take a sawzall and cut the pickets up off the ground 1-2inches, and use Telstar P around the post.

We purposely put pickets are on the ground because the if there was any gap, our dogs would start digging under. Obviously I had no idea about termite prevention, etc. Thanks for the feedback, I'll have to look into these chemicals. Maybe give our local pest control a call, see what they recommend.

Do termites eat pressure treated wood? The PT posts and runners look fine, it's just about 10 pickets randomly spaced over a couple hundred feet. The randomness kind of scares me, I am wondering where the colony is.

Talstar comes in a liquid generic, the active ingredient is bifenthrin

Fiprinil is a restricted use product, the good stuff, higher active ingredient materials require a pesticide license to buy and use

As for the random destruction, I have seen termites get into hardwood floors and eat one board, skip around, and eat another. They must be picky bastards.
