This question is about the TF727 in my Plymouth. Obviously 2wd but that shouldn't matter.
I purchased this with a receipt from a friend of a friend so I don't think anything is shady.
It was taken to a local trans shop who installed a shift kit in it. It did not have a rebuild due to them saying it didn't need it. Afterwards it was bolted to an engine and ran stationary but never put in gear. I can confirm this due to the lack of parts on the donor car I bought
Now that it resides in my car I have all gears when up on jack stands ( no resistance) INCLUDING reverse. However when on the ground I only have forward gears no reverse. When I research this there are multiple threads about bands / adjustments that need to be made or possible broken parts.
I'm a newbie when it comes to auto trans with the first one I ever tinkered with being the TF727 in my Scrambler. In my virgin mind seeing that a shop had it apart and inspected it 7 months ago I'm thinking it wouldn't need adjusting. Am I wrong? I also read about a possible stuck valve and to just add some Lucas trans stop slip.
Note: as it sits now the fluid reads perfect on the dipstick in neutral at operating temp.
