the th400 in my suburban is slipping in reverse. she'll move in reverse in idle but will begin to slip/grind if you put the gas down more than 1/2 way. selection D 1, 2 work flawlessly. besides a funny high pitched noise when you hit high RPMs :driver: but i am just guessing that this is the torque converter. this happened about two weeks ago and it has been sitting at the curb since.

decided to start it up and go forward a few yards then reverse a few yards. figured what the hell lets check the tranny fluid....the dipstick is virtually dry.

so question is: is the tranny loosing fluid because of the slipping, or is the transmission slipping because of no fluid.

the reason this is such a big deal is because right my parents are forcing me to try and sell it because of this. i do not want to sell it. if it is just a matter of some more fluid i would be so happy.

NEED HELP!!!

add more fluid if it is still slipping you have more than likely burnt the clutches up. if it stop's slipping check the fluid when you get gas and drive.

x2..low fluid = burnt friction clutches and excessive heat on internals. most.....change the fluid, filter and add a bottle of trans guard (excellent product). if that don't help then you need a rebuild!!!! good luck

okay sounds good. i have never really abused the transmission before. especially not in reverse. but its the original trans from 1988. so its had a pretty good life span. i'm just not ready to sell the car because i know in a year i will regret it big time.

hahah rip on me all you want but this is my baby
