My old man made a trip up to Granite Falls to buy some craigslist tires for his old dumptruck yesterday, and what should have been a simple 3hr round trip turned in to about 9 hours. The tires were at Absolute Auto Diesel Performance in Granite Falls, and they got the tires put on no problem, but when dad went to start the truck to go home, it wouldn't start. Chris took the time to check the entire glow plug electrical system, only to determine that wasn't the root cause. Then they noticed a blob of solder in the floor, and realized the starter solenoid had burned out. Chris got a new solenoid on order, then got some lunch for dad, since he was stuck there. Once they got the solenoid changed out, the truck still wasn't turning over well, so they pulled the starter, and found a huge amount of play in the bearings/armature. Chris got a new starter brought over and stayed till 6pm to get it installed and make sure dad was able to get back on the road. Then when it was all said and done, he only charged cost for the parts and 1 hour labor! If that's not awesome customer service and a great price, I don't know what is.
I have no affiliation with Absolute Auto Diesel Performance or Chris Townsend, but I wanted to give him and his business props for doing what they did. To have two guys drop what they are doing for an entire afternoon, buy lunch, and charge a more than fair price is unheard of in this day and age. Judging by their Facebook page, he just started the business up in September, but it sounds like he's already got the customer service thing down pat.
