So the past week has been extremely hard between work being very intense with physical labor and about to transition into a completely different position.

I met up with a future coworker to get so advice and talk some things through. When I arrived at the restaurant my key would not come out of my ignition. So I figured my 10 dollar cylinder crapped out. So I took the rest of keys off so I could lock the vehicle.

Then when I went to leave I got in the jeep and tried to crank it nothing happened besides a slight click. So I pull the cylinder and tried using screw driver same thing so cylinder is good. Well all of my lights came on along with my radio. The gauge cluster was reading normal so I knew my battery was good. So I look up to see if where my starter relay is because the clcik was coming from my passenger side fuse panel. So I check the starter fuse it's good. Still nothing, checked the relay, tried again still nothing. So I check the starter connection everything's good still nothing from the starter. I tapped on the starter still nothing. Checked the neutral safety switch it's still tight and pluged in, still nothing.

Any guess what the issue was?

Still in gear?
Yup still in driver. After I spent 10 minutes trying to figure out what the hell was up. I finally got in and I was gonna try it in neutral that's when I realized in was still in drive.

Reminds me of the ordeal I had a couple of years ago with a 2005 Mercury I had. My initial problem was it wouldn't go into gear. Turned out I had two problems working in unison to piss me off. Evidently, Mercurys won't run if the brake lights don't work.

From a post at the time:

went out to dinner, then WAS going back to the house to do nothing for a change.

When we went out to the car, started it up...but it wouldn't go into gear. (2005 Mercury Montego) Quick search of the internet on my phone said it was probably the brake/transmission interlock switch. About reached my frustraition point just figuring out how to get the console apart to hit the release button. Did that, and didn't work. Luckily, I had a small handfull of tools with me, cause I'd just gone earlier to rescue my wife's car.

From there....

Pulled brake switch, metered it, it was bad. Was right in front of an advance auto, they didn't have one in stock, but the one across town did. But they closed in 5 minutes. O'reillys and Autozone are open until 10, but neither one had one on hand...

Went into the grocery store, and asked for a paperclip. That was an ordeal itself...I think they they thought I was running some sort of a scam on them. Finally got one. Shorted the brake light switch wires, car started to crank, but died. Checked fuses....brake circuit blown. Swapped it for another fuse, blew again.

Pulled apart LH tail light, it was fine. Pulled LH assembly...full of water. Unplugged all the connections, shook water out...not dry enough....blew another fuse. Stole another fuse from another circuit...radio I think. Blew and shook out connectors....finally got it to start and run.

Made it home 2.5 hours later, one brake light housing in the trunk, and other brake light shorted 'on' with the paperclip. So much for Friday night.

I went on a 45 minute each way service call one time to find that out.. even brought a starter for it with me...

Heck... There's a guy I know that owns a business right on 221.. he got out of his truck, went and sat down in office.. some seconds later looks up to see his truck moving.. he thought someone was stealing it.. but it didn't accelerate away.. he walked out the door and watched it roll away, into the building next door.. guess he missed park and was in reverse, engine off.. oops. Damaged building, bashed the "push bar", and dented the hell out of the bumper.

Had a buddy in highschool that had a Mitsubishi something or other with a 5 speed. He had to park it uphill of his house and one day it rolled (he swears it was in gear when parked, wasnt when FD removed it) into his house, hit the outside breaker box and caused a pretty sizable fire. Didnt burn the whole house, but needless to say his mom was not happy. At all.

Lol I drank a beer one time and I must have had an allergic reaction or something because I more or less don't remember getting home (private property drive from the farm shop to the house) My truck was sitting in my moms flower bed at the bottom of the yard on top of a concrete bench. Door was open and truck was in drive, I must have just hopped out and walked into the house as my pickup rolled away. Told moms that popping out of gear must be what the recall notice was for.

Was that beer number 12, 18, or 24?
