i know that the flats in marion is this weekend....on that note i am on the fence about going to participate.

my jeep is an xj and lifted only 3.5" no lockers. so right now 50/50 on going.

been to URE about a dozen times and have fun every time

never been to the flats before. is it mainly obstacles or trail riding or both???

want to know what the terrain is since i will be driving from moorseville (about an hour and fifteen minute drive)

i just dont want to show up, terrain is too wild for my comfort and have to drive home early because i dont want to break anything.

my definition of wild would be anything way harder than daniel.

i do daniel everytime i go to ure and enjoy the medium style terrain.

i ride my jeep pretty rough but know my limits. so body damage is no biggy but when rocks are smashin the under carriage i have to pick my lines a little better.

looking for guidance for the unexperinced

you may pm me if you would rather

nick

There will be a few trails, not as many as URE...
On the flip side to that is, this is a fund raiser for a fellow wheeler. Will there be as much for you to wheel this weekend? NO
Will you have fun and meet new people? YES
Will you be helping a good cause? YES
Come on out and enjoy the games, people and goodtimes and see the "other" side of the wheeling community that many do not see, but makes me proud tobe involved with!!

Nick, let me know if you are going. I'm heading down in the Ram and can bring an empty trailer just in case :)
Wanna scoop up my jeep? I cant really wheel it,(no rear shocks) but it has lots of NC4X4 vendor advertising on it! It would look really cool propped up beside the Table Crawl and Your Hotdog guy..lol:popcorn:

Should be bringing my heep out to play, never rode the trails at the Flats, went out for the ECORS race and got a look at some of them though. Some of them are pretty intense, some pretty nasty hills in a few places.

Forgot to say, probably be riding nearby 95GranZJ, winch will be chillin, probably have a strap or something with also. If ya get in trouble and I can help, find the the blue heep.

I know several people that are going and not riding, there will be plenty to see and do. This is what Snappy said, fundraiser for one of our own! This is highly family oreintated event.

Do come out Nick. There's plenty of stock level hill climbs and a playground area for you to have some fun. You can ride the trails and scope the place out as well. It's not a very big place, but I enjoyed it. Besides, a lot of the fun in this sport is hanging out with those who share your same interests!

Hey man you won't be the worst one there. I'm hauling my 90 stock Trooper on 31s from an hour & 1/2 away in WNC to go play. I've never been there before either but I'll try anything once & then winch out or get towed out. You guys who know the place look for me & make sure I make it out alive. It'll be a grey Trooper & I'll have my 6 year old son with me.

If you're on the fence about going...go ahead and do it, no regrets. Every place is different, it won't be exactly like URE, no place will. @ the Flats, there are trails that you obviously won't even attempt, but there are trails you can cruise around. As mentioned before, there will be a lot of commraderie and hanging out, ie, you won't be showing up @ 10am and wheeling for 8hrs straight. Plan on parking in the woods somewhere and watching the big dogs play on the steep trails. There are trails you can handle, the entire ECORS A-class loop was not diffficult at all.

I will be there.. taking the shoe leather express.... I think you will be fine but should you decided to not wheel you won't be the only one walking around....

I'd let ya drive my jeep around if ya wanted to pick it up in Mocksville...theres no rear shocks right now, so I would'nt want ya to hit any hard stuff, but it'll do fine as a ''mule'' from A to B.

yep

Ole Blue you have asked the "most asked question". There is stuff there that you will probably want to stay away from.Red trails, some mediocre that you will probably wanna look at before you try them, and the more stock friendly green trails. Keep in mind, the moister content definitely has a bearing on all trails, but you should still be pretty safe on the green trails.
The playground is just that, many different lines and smaller obstacles to tackle. Within our club we have stock to really big, and everyone can find plenty to have fun on. We worked really hard to have something for everyone. Below is a map with the color coated trails and play areas

Thanks for posting the map! I am taking my my cruiser that is open with 33s and my friend is taking a CJ7 on 32s with a rear locker. He is taking his young son for the day and we don't need to get in over our heads.

Can't wait to see your place and meet some new faces for a good cause.

Is there a common channel on the CB that folks use there to communicate? I am alway up for lending a hand if someone is in need.

Holy moly. Thanks for the help guys. You can plan on seeing me there unless plans change very last minute

I want to come but the old CJ is running rough. My first visit was last fall and my jeep was on 31's with open front and rear. We ran out almost a tank of gas in the play sections and still had a 1.5hr drive home. I think it is a great place and would like to see the show just to check out all the rigs.

Come on out and either use the CJ as a mule or let it rest at home!
