The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

Oh man. Arguably the most powerful character brought into a series/movie? Would be pretty awesome, but could it be done????

I know Peter Jackson couldn't find a way to put him in the The Fellowship of the Ring, but would be cool to figure out a way to include him in some way.

He could be a fantastic "Special Guest Star".. Only bring him into the story every once in a while as a recurring character to fix a mess some of other other charcters create..

So I re watched the first two episodes and I have to say, that I am impressed. I missed a lot of stuff in the first viewing and even with the changes and addition of people/things that aren't present in the books, its still very entertaining to me. Little details that I noticed and the symbolism of certain scenes is really incredible. I think as the series goes on, its only going to get better.

Anyone keeping up with the show? I've been watching it every Friday and I have to say, If you can separate the Trilogy from the show (which was hard for me at first) and let this series be it's on thing...it really is a great show. The cinematography alone is absolutely incredible.

I agree. Keeping the trilogy's separated in my mind, im loving this adaptation. Sure, somethings dont line up with the books (like a Silmaril in a tree causing the creation of mithril...), but overall im really enjoying the cinemagraphy and following along a "version" of the tolkien timeline.

I keep hearing it gets better but we made it maybe 2/3 of the way through the first episode and were bored. We watched James May: Our Man in Italy instead and it was more enjoyable.

We watched the first episode Sat night. Pretty boring and very hard to follow. Clearly a lot of plots being set up at once, but nobody in my family could tell what was going on. Jonas got up and left to go play video games, Delaney (who was the primary proponent of us starting watching) deemed if the 2nd isn't better she's not watching any more. "This can be a show for just you guys."

It does start off slow and that is the complaint I hear the most. I enjoy the build up and it does get more interesting as the episodes go along.

It seems like most people who are already fans of the books like it, and casual LOTR and hobbit watchers are a little less enthused. I fall into the latter - I have been watching it and there are parts and characters I like and other stuff is a little silly and cartoony to me. I'll keep watching it to see how it shakes out.

< shrug > Tell me I'll start to care about Elrond and Galadriel and I'll give it another try.

I enjoyed the books and the movies. The show looked pretty good but, like Dave said, the setup was especially hard to follow. We watched to see if it was watchable with the kids but I'm not sure they'd be able to keep track.

Elrond gets better and more likeable, and his relationship with Durin is fun and entertaining, I'm still having trouble liking Galadriel, She maybe right (OK she is right) But she is obsessive to the point of irritating about her "quest"

I really like Elrond. I agree that his relationship with Durin is fun to watch, Even though I have an issue with the father and son being Durin.

I really really like Galadriel. I think the lady who plays her is doing a fantastic job and I really enjoy her motivation throughout the show.

I really really really like Adar. He is just my kind of character in a show. All of his dialogue and just his presence has been very impressive for me.

I'll admit that the show is not for everyone, but I think the 2nd age is a hard time to start a show from. There is a lot that has already happened from the moment this show started, and when you have so much to cover (because most of us know where this story ends) you have to make sure the audience knows how we get there.

@ckruzer and I have have been talking about the show a lot and once you get involved and stick with it, there is a lot of lore there and I think each episode just keeps getting better. The writers have done an excellent job keeping you wondering about how things are going to pan out and it officially has me hooked. I remember when Breaking Bad first came out and the first couple of episodes were a little hard for me to get into, but am I glad I stuck with it.
