The New, Overweight Cherokee

The Jeep Trail Rated badge on the 2006 Jeep Commander shows that the vehicle has been designed to perform in a variety of challenging off-road conditions identified by five key consumer-oriented performance categories: Traction, Ground Clearance, Maneuverability, Articulation and Water Fording

LOL

Is this just a reskinned Durango or modified Grand?

Mod grand. It has all the engine opts. as the new grand and same susp. and chassis as the grand.

The good folks at Jeep just failed to break down what they really meant by the above statement. Below are the real meanings to the five points listed above.

#1. Traction = 2wd with maybe a Limited-Grip thrown in the back axle for 2.5wd, 3wd if you are really easy on the throttle.

#2 Ground Clearance = Must be able to drive across curbs and venture "off-road" (out in the median or grass) to pass lines of stopped traffic on your way to Star Schmucks Coffe.

#3 Maneurverability = Easy to park the beast at the mall / concert / beach / soccer practice / etc...

#4 Articulation = Must only lift one tire while crossing curbs and highway reflectors. Must ride good enough so not to spill any of the Star Schmucks Coffee as you blast down the freeway doing 80mph.

#5 Water Fording = Does really well on wet pavement and is able to pull itself out of the Drive-Thru Car Wash.

man those icelandic people love their offset tires and crazy flares! i have seen some really outlandish looking nissan setups.

Those tires go as far into the fenders as the OEM tires do, but they are just 15+" wide.. they gotta go somewhere!

Flares are required to cover the tires in most other countries... Find a picture of a Japanese spec C4 'vette.. has little fender flares on it, stock.

But isn't that a superpoo? It's got a very Rover (or newer TLC) looking solid axle in the rear. It's more than flared out, it's been SASed all round (maybe even put on a rover frame)

Now THAT'S a sport utility wagon!
