As far as I know the rates are $11 per atv(passengers on atv's pay also)So the typical "family" in the atv community seems to be 3 or 4 (mom, dad, kid)(dad, kid, kid, mom) so they are paying $33 or $44 and I hate to say this I have never heard any of the ATV/Motorctycles bitch about the $$.what was the ratio of rigs vs.atv's ?
are the rates for atv's still less?
i have not been back due to the rate increase and was curious.
I didn't mean you as in you ( hadfield4wd) in particular I meant you as in the general public who disagrees, and as far as packing your food goes I was just throwing some suggestions out there. Some people will continue to go and some won't. If you really enjoyed callalantee and really wanted to see it improve you would go and support them. The end. Just my .2 cents. Not complaining. Merely stating the facts. In fact I like to see the improvements to the park and it is better overall for the sport.
I do pack all my food for the weekend.![]()
I haven't seen it BUT I have not camped there in awhile. There's a lot of interesting reading in this thread... keep 'er comin' folks.
If its been mentioned, I missed it, but is anything being done to stop the ATV crowd from raising hell and ripping around the campground. That's been one of my biggest reasons for camping at the Mountain Empire, regardless of nice weather conditions.

And about the fee's.
I do not have anything to do with that.
I really don't know why folks are complaining about $4......
If you have a truck by yourself it's $15 to ride, for each passenger it's $11 each.
If you have 1 ATV then it's $11 to ride,if you and your GF go out on your ATV it's $22.
Or you spend $$ and get her,her own ATV...then it's $22 for both of you to ride.
As for why it's $4 more?? dunno maybe insurance?maybe not.
If you want to save $4 don't go..is that the answer?
how about getting another rig that way you only have one passenger in yours.
$11 or $15 for a person to ride all day,is not $$$ in my book,it's cheaper than bowling, the movies or eating out(by the hour) 12 hours enjoyment at less than $1 per hour, very cool.
How much is bowling for 1 hr?
Eating for less than an hour(plus waiting in line)?
the movies are what for 2 1/2hrs?
Just a different perspective on the $$$deal
Well I'm glad for the improvements. However if I'm going to drive that far only another 2 hours to harlan. Plus I'm only 2 total from Crozet.
I agree with Jeremy on this. I'm going back to my original statement.
"I'm not poor, but I am cheap"
It's a comparison. I wheel a ton of different places on the east coast. Mtn City is currently the highest price one to go to for me. Especially when you consider I bring 2 boys. That's a fact.
For the $45/day it would cost me I can do an entire weekend at Crozet for $40. That doesn't include the camping fees, because I'm willing to pay for the showers, that's just the wheeling.
If I lived closer I'm sure it would be a different story.
^^^
Don't forget any expense incurred to get there as well.
It's way cheaper to go to URE, $10 to $40 depending on where yo camp, Gulches and Crozet are roughly the same distance at Callalantee for me, both of which are less expensive for a weekend of wheeling with the family.
Like Hadfield4x4 said, movies bowling dinners out are apples and oranges to wheeling. It's been three years since I've been to the movies, can't tell you last time I was bowling, probably early twenties.
The issue is not the $4 dollar increase for a single driver it's the $11 per passenger that everyone is pointing out as being too much. If I had three vehicles and my 6yo son could drive I'd gladly pay $45 for us ALL to DRIVE. In my case $37, one driver and two passengers, is a little much just for trail fees.
While were on the subject of fees what is up with this:
Taken from http://highcountryatv.com/riding.htm
Camping rates:
Non-Hookup: $15 for 2 people, w/$3 for each additional person over 10 yrs. old
Hookup: Depends on the size of the camper
Sounds like they'll charge you what they think you can afford based on what your RV looks like.
They run a private business and they can charge what they want and it's up to each and every one of us to decide if we are going to pay it. It seems to me that they think they have us over a barrel due to how great a place they have but they don't. Piss off your patrons and they won't come back. I for one will not until changes are made but I will also continue to let others know why.

If this were a dead horse it would not still be coming up.
Scott, I'm glad you feel that money is not an important issue to you but for most of the rest of the world it is.
I will beat this dead horse every time it is brought up or until the first amendment is rescinded or Shawn bans me.
The passenger fees are too high, period.
Why do you get to take a vehicle on the trails for only $15 where it costs family's from $26 to $48 dollars or more a day for a similar vehicle.
How about this:
All of you folks who say the passenger fees are not a problem, pay for 2 extra passengers every time you go to Callalantee, even if you don't have them. I'm sure Neeta can work out a method of passing on the free passes you provide to those who do care about their money and want to carry family or passengers.
I'm sure the response will be "why should we pay for your passengers" That is the same point we make.
or,
How about we all pay a flat $50 dollars a day to ride. Then it would be the same for one person as a family of five. I bet Neeta would really like that proposal. What do you say? All of you who say the fee's are fine should back this without hesitation. It would certainly get Callalantee in the black financially.
Yes, I think these proposals are ridiculous but so are the current passenger fees.
I would hope you can see why this is not a fair fee structure.
I have never said they shouldn't raise rates or make a profit, they should. Controlling access to the property and being as friendly to this community will make them far more money than sticking it to families.
DEAD HORSE BEAT ONCE AGAIN, maybe the point will sink in this time.
RV's are primarily a 12v and propane system bar AC, microwave and TV. The AC power is converted to DC to keep up the battery which runs the lights, furnace, hot water heater, water pump etc. With the exception of RV's with 2 AC units they all pull about the same power to keep up their batteries. I've camped all over this country and have yet to run into a campground charging a camping fee depending on their perception of the camper. most charge for non-electric or electric. Occasionally electric site rates are split between 30a and 50a service but not often.just playing devil's advocate here but it may have to do with the resources it consumes. electrical costs for larger campers (more light, stove, etc.) plus more water usage based on # of occupants.
but for the most part I completely agree with you on this one. that's my biggest complaint with Windrock. $17/day/person no matter if they ride or drive![]()
I'm glad your situation provides you the vantage point you have. I was attempting to enlighten you to ours. I find it sad that you just told everyone that you can care less about other peoples situations since your were your happy with yours. At least that's the way it came off to me anyway. My position is to support the entire community not just my part of it.Okay in a nutshell. Im sorry you chose to have a family and now its a financial burden on you. I have already raised my family. I have already made my sacrifices for them. I have already struggled to fed and clothe and house my family. Now I am playing cuz I can afford to. If you cant, tough titties! Life aint fair. Your situation is of your own doing, Not mine. So I shouldnt have to pay so you can play. Thats a bit socialistic, dont you think?
How bout instead of stinkin up every thread someone posts bout Callalantee, take your proposals to Neeta. Convince her that your interests arent just about you. Explain to her that she will suffer in the long run. If you succeed great! If not, you try to gather a few million dollars and buy your own mountain and well see how charitable you will be when the bills come due!

I agree.....I'm sorryWhy are we doing this again? People c'mon let's support our wheelin community regardless. I go to multiple places to wheel. That's the fun of it right, "different places"!
I am sure "changes" will come when they get the funds raised where they can!! Takes time to get this going like planning, paying funds that are due now and to collect the funds for the "changes"! Be patient, it will get done not overnight!!!
Let's do what we can to keep our wheelin community alive and appreciate what they are doing to keep places open for us!!!!
...I'll play nice
