So after my frustration and hatred for the 89 F150 we picked up, I sold it and got something I really wanted. The 89 F150 I got for cheap, and never really fell in love with it. I liked it because it was clean and cheap, but hated it because it was a Ford and I couldn't lower it cheaply.

So I sold it and had some cash in my pocket, and the same weekend two of my car pickups didn't pan out. I found myself sitting with $2k in cash and I massive desire for another pickup truck.

A friend at work had a 71 C10 that we've talked about for years. He took care of it and wanted to restore it, but for the 6 monthsr or so he has talked about selling it because he knew he would never do it. Well, I always teased him with $700 offers because he's my buddy and we are assholes to each other.

This last week we were sitting there at work and I said "I got $2000 and I am going to buy your truck" he laughed and said it was going to take all of it. Once he realized I was serious he agreed and we set up a time yesterday to get it.

It needs some loving but is a pretty awesome truck. He has maintained it well, he bought it from the original owner back in 1997. Previous owner had installed a Goodwrench 350 crate motor at some point along with an Edelbrock 4bbl. The carb needs rebuilt, seems like it has accelerator pump problems, but runs pretty awesome. I need to install a new flexplate (missing some teeth) and a new starter (heat soak problems) along with the carb, but it is a strong truck that could be a daily driver once that is straight.

Plans right now are to get the carb rebuilt and fix the flexplate and starter, and then start building it.

Going to lower it and put some new wheels/tires on it. The interior will be redone in black but leaving the metal in the green color. Outside will be repainted, rockers replaced, and done in the original green/white color.

Haven't washed it yet, and it is raining now, so wait till later this week for better pictures.

The first order today was figuring out why the headlights sucked so bad. Guess they were the original lights.......not quite sealed any more.

I like this plan sooooo much better than the hot rod black/red wheel furd. I love the color combo on the truck, too. Might look even better with tan or brown interior, though. Sweet ride, man. I'd love to have it myself.

Always did favor the 71s for some reason. If it was a short bed, that'd be amazing. Normally, I'm a long bed guy, but these in a short bed are sweeeet. It'll work better for hauling stuff though.

If it was a shortbed I probably couldn't afford it. If I ever want a shortbed, I have a plasma cutter and a welder. :)

Brown would look good on the interior, but even when it is done I plan on using it, so black would hide a lot of dirt/grease that I would drag in.

@71chevytruckguy

This makes me think of the truck you have... sitting in various locations...

I'll take a 69 longhorn. He bigger the bed, he better! I even like the fact that you can see the seam where they added the 8 inches!

I'd definitely keep the interior some kind of earth tone to correspond with the green and white exterior. Saddle tan or a green and white plaid would be pretty slick if done right. As said, this looks WAY cooler than the Ford. I assume the rear end is held in place with truck arms and coils (I think that generation still used them). Those are way easier to lower, and still keep usable.

I think the dark tan ZJ seats you have would look sweet!

Definitely not doing any white. Not only am I constantly greasy....I have two young sons.

A dark saddle might be nice. I really want to keep the bench seat though, always liked the bench, easier for my wifey to get close. :)

Got my plate for the truck today and bought a new carb. Was going to rebuild the carb, but got a smoking deal on a new Edelbrock so figure it would be worth it to replace the 20+ year old one that was on there that needed a rebuild.

OK, so think I have an idea for the truck but not sure yet. The body on it is really straight other than a few surface rust spots and dead rockers. The paint isn't bad, has a little patina to it.

I am thinking of buffing the body and rubbing it down in Gibbs oil and leaving it as-is. I will replace the rockers and color match them and spray them in a semigloss green so the sheen matches the body and doesn't stand out. I may actually be able to patch them with some sheetmetal, need to see how bad they are. The rest I can clean up and use Gibbs on.

This way, the truck still retains that cool shop truck look and I can spend my money on lowering it, new wheels, and redoing the interior.

So I washed the truck today and I definitely think I am going to buff it and do what I mentioned in the previous post. I pulled the ugly wheel covers and sprayed the wheels black for now.

I also got my seat belts, so going to try and install them tomorrow.

I took some liberties with it.... Could make a bad ass rat rod truck with very little work. I'm still kinda new to Photoshopping or else I'd have tried to drop it a couple inches and throw some pinstriping on it, but just some color on those steelies and some hand lettering and pinstriping could make that truck sweet!

One of my best friends is a graphic designer and works for a big sign shop out in Greensboro. He is going to cut a stencil of my business logo and brush it on so it looks vintage.

In a couple of months I am going to put some 17" Rocket Racing Booster wheels on it.
