The Smells of Fall...

The first time we fire up the wood stove and that first morning of sittin in the woods as the day breaks.

I detest everything about this time of year, until after Christmas. The weather, the temperature fluctuations, cleaning up leaves, commercialization of holidays, how cold do I want to get before I turn the heat on, obligatory gift exchanges, faux interactive pleasantries, etc etc. Humbug...

All of this right here sums it up for me, times eleventy thousand and two.

I do like seeing how far I can go without heat though. So far I still haven’t turned it on. I’ll hit the gas logs for a bit in the morning, and then the sun pretty much warms it up from there. I like waking up with it being 63* in my house in the mornings.

We turned our heat on a week or two ago and it felt nice. Nothing to prove here. Heck, it was 37 outside when I woke up the next morning. And this is by far the best time of year. Walked over to the garage this morning in my underwear, and the nice dry chill was refreshing.

No heat yet. I try and go as long as possible. We had a all new dual systems put in this spring. New units, new furnace, the works. I've already seen my electric bill drop because of it, so I'm sure the heat bill won't be as bad as last year. Wife is constantly cold even in the summer(she sleeps with a heating pad :shaking:). I love working in the shop this time of year. Just cold enough to keep the bugs away and you don't sweat, but warm enough you don't need a jacket or need to fire up the propane cannon. 35 degrees in west charlotte this morning, I can't remember it being this cold this soon so maybe a hard cold winter? Works for me...

Same. And then the A/C back on, then the heat, then the A/C, and now the heat again.
Yep, it had to turn the AC back on a couple nights ago so I could sleep and not sweat.

I love this time of year.
Pumpkin flavored beer, football, deer hunting, cool enough for a good fire at night but not so cold...turning leaves are God's art. No grass to cut. No mosquitos.

I love this time of year. Working out of town and being able to see the power consumption at the house on an app. Then being able to call the wife out on it for being a fuckin sissy.

Oh yeah, then theres the whole thing about hiding from people and sitting in a tree stand or ground blind as much as possible.

The lake smells different when we're out fishing, with the difference in water temperature and the gradual turnover of the thermocline. And people on the lakefront start having more fires in their patio fireplace chimney whatever they are, which is always a good smell.

My favorite time of the year is when the pleasure boaters decide it's too cold to be pleasurable, and stay at home until late spring. We just change our clothing.

Maybe for Charlotte. Facebook memories showed that it’s snowed at least over 4” twice in the last 5 years this week. There was a dusting on a few high ridges this morning

I know it's fall the first time I get to wear a hoodie. My favorite part of this time of year - hoodies and blue jeans all weekend.

Fresh fallen leaves, a wood shop, and gun oil/rem wipes.

Whenever I catch a whiff of those things, that screams fall to me.

Burnt toast b/c I forget to change the toaster temp after my wife has made English muffins.

Oh wait I though it said "the smells of fail"

I know... What would it take to get rid of the time change. Daylight Savings forever.
From what I'm hearing, it's actually becoming reasonably likely.
Even Trump has said he favors it (which puts New England states in a bind, b/c several are trying to change soon, but can't admit they agree w/ Trump!)

Oddly, the Department of Transportation is in charge of the nation's time zones.... which means regardless of policy, it'll still take foreeeeeever for anything to change :D
