A true story.

A guy called me yesterday to pick up two vans. We arranged to meet this morning, so I went out, dumped the car I picked up last night off the NEVERBUYAStryker trailer, and left.

The guy told me he was on a red moped, and would meet me there. Odd, but ok. I was a bit late, and as I got to the house ( which appeared abandoned) I saw a red moped leaving. I figured it was him, so I sent him a message that I was there, and I waited. After a few minutes he said he was on his way back.

One of the vans was a 2010Toyota. It was locked. Since things were suspicious, I went ahead and ran the VIN. It came back clean, but that just means it might not be stolen yet. YET.

The guy showed up, and I immediately asked for his ID, and got a picture of it. Then I asked if he had the keys, and he said he didn't. Then he said he was selling it to bail a friend out of jail. So I noped right out of there.

I posted on Facespace for all my fellow scrappers to beware, and then called the Sheriff's office and let them know what was going on. Two other guys had been contacted by the guy, they both left without the vans.

You know it is going to be a good day when you have to contact law enforcement before lunch.

I had to pick up a broken fridge after lunch, so I hopped in the pickup and left. As I drove along, I got a phone call from a sheriff's deputy. He had some questions for me about the vans. He was at the property, and the vans were gone. He said he was going to go to the address on the guys license and see if he was there.

I got the fridge and headed for home.

After I got home, I got a call from the deputy again. He had been out delivering presents - a nice shiny pair of bracelets. He had found the guy, and charged him with theft by conversion. He obviously sold two vehicles that were not his, so he gets nice accommodations for Christmas. The deputy asked me to give an identification, and I was attempting to give it, and Steph asked if I had him on the dashcam. She ran out and got the SD card, and I had a really nice shot of him standing behind my truck. I sent a screen shot of it to him.

He confirmed it was the same guy he arrested.

And he gets a nice new mug shot too.

Second guy I have put in jail this year for stolen cars.

I meet the nicest people.
