The Tundra Cummins V8?

I doubt the truck would like the above... I randomly found that pic.
It seems in the upcoming years there should be a nice selection of 1/2 ton diesels on the market.

Thats awesome! Too bad it will likely be expensive as shit!!

Someone actually called the shop a couple of weeks ago asking about this, the only down side that I can see is that the truck is going to be ridiculously expensive....

Unfortunately they will be burdened with so much emissions equipment that they will no longer be reliable or fuel efficient. And then what is the point of even getting a diesel.

You'll have to be a rocket surgeon to work on one too! If everybody wants a 1/2 ton diesel, then they should get an older truck of their liking and swap in a 4BT, 6BT, Duramax, etc. Cheaper than buying a new truck in most cases and it's a helluva lot cooler :D

Iirc that truck is from a SEMA show previous to '08. Before the stock market crash. Both Toyota and Nissan had them in the works. The Toyota dually, again iirc, was not toyota affiliated for the show. Toyota press release in 08 was to use hino power. Nissan had already confirmed using Dodge cab and cummins engine with they're own sheet metal design, similar to how sterling trucks used Dodge foundation. ... Again working off of memory, I could be wrong.

Edit : researched- pic is from 2007 SEMA show, don't know whose both it was.

Had not heard of this yet. I knew about the plans to put the 5.0 V8 in the Titan, but now as I read I see that Nissan is also planning a 2.8L Cummins for the next Frontier, and the word is out on the Canyon/Colorado diesel already. This is just evidence that everyone is finally waking up to the diesel benefits. My only hope is that fuel companies start building more plants to refine crude into diesel. The price is always higher and if consumption goes up then the price will too. Of course that would have an inverse effect on gasoline!

You are correct, that was the plan at the time. Nissan and Dodge parted ways and Nissan announced that they were forging ahead with their own Titan redesign that would not be affiliated with Dodge (now Ram).

Ram is still Dodge/Fiat..dont buy the marketing (though they have done an admirable job of getting away from the stigma)

Not exactly. Due to the new CAFE standards, the truck manufacturers have to move to diesels in order to have any hope of meeting the fuel efficiency requirements. This is the same reason Ford went to an aluminum cab, and other manufacturers are experimenting with aramid composites.

Needless to say, none of this is going to be cheap.

fuel consumption by diesel midsize trucks wont even make a blip on the radar for fuel companys.

Damn! That should be a pretty nice truck.
And it'll put a hurting on the Titan. Given the same engine, the tundra is better based on build quality and the Toyota name. I love Nissan but the Titan has never really been a contender.

Per Car and Driver "Come 2016, the option list for the next-gen Tundra will include a Cummins 5.0-liter turbo diesel. That oil-burner is predicted to be rated at 300+ horsepower and, in true diesel form, more than 500 lb-ft of torque."

That's pretty nice for toting around the ole jeep and still fitting in a nice parking spot.

Fords pretty wishy washy about the diesel in a half ton. They brought out the ecoboost v6 instead and then bashed diesels in half tons. Now that the cafe regs are getting closer, they have changed their mind once again.

My 07 Tundra is rated at 381HP and 401TQ. The increased torque of the diesel will be a little nicer between here and Harlan, but mine dose the job just fine.

381 HP @ 5,600 rpms
401 ftlb @ 3,600 rpms

How long are you in that power band?

Compare that with 600+ ftlb at a 1,400 through 2,750 (damn near the entire operating band)
For strictly towing its not a comparison...

That said wait until someone has to change the oil in one of these 5.0s... hehe.

Hell $200+ oil change.

Im in that powerband 3 times between Shelby and Harlan. #1 is the Saluda grade just because I can. #2 is that freakin long grade on I26 that you think is going to heaven between Mars Hill and the TN line. #3 is that nasty grade past Pennington Gap.
