Last I heard....28 quarts. Pure Synthetic...a special oil standard that CMI is developing with their fleetguard brand along with valvoline...and a "smart" oil filter which alerts when it needs to be "serviced"...of course its tied to the Emissions Control System so it CAN be proprietary.
 
7 gallons of oil? That is insane. That would be a pain to change in the driveway.
 
I highly doubt that Toyota would ever use a cummins engine. They have had successful diesels for 40ish years. That concept tundra has a Hino diesel in it btw.
 
It would be easier and cheaper for them to use an engine that will already be certified for use here.
 
True but the way Toyota has been I doubt the US will see a Toyota diesel for awhile. They have no reason to. Yes some Tacoma and Tundra owners want a diesel but Toyota already is very successful at selling those why would they dish out the money to produce diesel trucks when they don't have too.
 
I agree but the cafe regs will make the decision for them. Also once the Colorado diesel hits the midsize truck market, the game will change.

Cafe regs.
Each manufacturer has an average mpg they have to hit over their entire product line. BY adding in a diesel they can get a bump on their gas.
Toy and Cummins already have a partnership/supply agreement. They have put 23 liters in "mini" EMs for years

Hino was the original idea in 09. After everyone got their teeth sunk into the emission regs..Hino said no thanks. For one platform the $10-15MM emissions development cost would never be worth it.

Thats when Toy went to Cummins.

Toyota AND Nissan have contracts with Cummins...neither are exclusives but both are contracted on min supply and max price numbers.
