I just caught our 3rd CopperHead in the yard in 3 weeks. First two were large this one was only about 14". This is crazy. Haven't seen one around here in a couple of years and now when ever we go out we step on one. I'm not one to kill snakes but this is getting out of control. First and biggest one was 4' from the front door on our walk when I was headed out to walk the new puppy. Next one was in the yard and this one was on the brick walk to the driveway. The wife just missed him stepping over him at the last second. I've been moving them to the heavy woods of a park up from our house cause I hate to kill any snake but this has got to stop.

Anyone want a few snakes?

Green Ford, can you post a pic? Where are you located? If you aren't far from the Triad I will come remove the snakes.

And are you a member of pier and surf?

My sister-in-law got bit twice on the foot by one at a cookout in Raleigh less than two weeks ago. She's just getting back on her feet now.

Yikes! Glad she's ok.

A buddy was bitten by a baby copperhead on his thumb... several years ago, now. His hand was swollen up like a football.

x2 on finding a black snake and bringing it home. Let it go in your bushes and let nature happen. And if you see another copperhead...call someone else to KILLLLL IT.

My best friend and his dad are the local "snake guys", and they've even gotten to the point of being ok with killing copperheads because they have gotten so abundant.

The moth ball thing worked for me. Several years ago I had killed 4 Copper heads in less than 2 weeks. I put moth balls around the border of my yard & around & under anywhere they might be & never saw another one. So..... I now do it every year when it starts getting over 75 degrees outside on a regular basis.

That is disappointing to hear. Your friend and his dad should not be killing the snakes because they THINK that species is more abundant this year. There was not some huge population burst. It SEEMS like there are more copperheads this year because you are SEEING more due to the warm weather we got so early this year. There were just as many copperheads last year. It's sad to hear some people justify the killing of a certain species when they don't know much about it.

Last week we heard a blood curling scream at work. Seems a 4' black snake had found his way into the building. He was caught and released back outside. Would have been your perfect anti-copperhead device.

you need a black snake...
We have plenty of black snakes all the time. Caught a 5' inside our laundry room that the wife found.

I'm in Raleigh. I know of a nice patch of woods behind 4WPs they may get this one. Yep I'm the same GreenFord on Pier and Surf. What's your name on there?
Funny part of this is I used to breed snakes. I've had up to 35 snakes at one time in the house. Now I have none and all the local ones show up..:shaking:
BTW I have always had a thing for snakes. Raised them since I was a little boy. Here's me playing with a friends baby Cobra.

I haven't seen any on the property in 5 years, and then this spring, I've found two of 'em.
here's a handsome little devil

I was helping mom go through and clean up her veggie garden a few eeks ago and we found the big black snake tangled up and dead in some the stuff we lay down for weeds. To this point we've found 4 small 8-12" copperheads in the yard. So we're on the lookout for another black snake.

this is to funny, my 2 dogs were raising hell a week ago in the back of my place so I went back there and there was a black snake eating a med. size copperhead, well it was 20 inches or so, maybe small, but after all the excitement later that evening my one dog had a baseball size lump under her chest, come to find out(from the vet) she must have gotten bit. she never really acted any different all day which surprised me, It was nasty looking! thats the first copperhead Ive seen in 4or5years....

When I see a snake, I grab a shovel.

My view on snakes, Im not a huge fan of them, but if Im in the woods, I don't bother them. While cutting trails at a buddies land over the last 2 months I have come across two 4-5' black snakes, 4-5 baby copperheads, 1 medium (2 foot) copperhead.

Haven't killed any of them yet, once they start turning up in my yard and driveway though, they will be met with the shovel. Have yet to have any issues, black snakes usually keep them away.

Coming from someone that owned a snake for several years, WTF is the point of letting a copperhead live? I have snakes on my property and have no problem with it, but those little bastards get the the shovel. They're mostly nocturnal and poisonous. If you didn't step foot outside or weren't active on your own property then what the hay but thats not me:popcorn:
