The Yugo of tomorrow?

I don't think I could get my foot in that little thing.

the smart car passed with flying colors....
another way to say "f" you to the UAW.

Smart car also designed by Benz, a company with a history for safety, US market, etc.
and a Smart isn't exactly as cheap as a motorcycle.

.....dont even know what to say....except i hope thats photoshopped.............
has anyone ever wondered what would happen if you hit one of those "smart" cars? I drive a 94 f350 dually with a landscape bed on the back hauling 2 mowers, trimmer, 2 blowers, 10 gallons of gas (not to mention in the mowers) and i have 2 tanks of diesel that equal 31 gallons......doesnt seem very smart to drive one of those, i think the 350 would obliterate that car, i dont care what the safety standards are. i could fit at least 2 in the back of the truck!

I'd buy one for a commuter car... Yugo's were NOT bad cars they were cheep but they got the bad rap for not being to get any parts to fix them. And a smart car passed me on 85 doing well over 70 didn't look to scary...

I had a Smart Car pass me coming back from Florida. I was doing 75, 5 over, and it passed me on the left, with an 18 wheeler right on it's tail. That was good for a laugh for everyone in my car :) But it did look kinda scary! I have a friend with Smart Car and she loves it. Once you get behind the wheel, it doesn't feel that small.

The Tata Nano will not be the $2300 car in Europe or here. Car and Driver had an article on them last month. It will be triple that for the european version and $9k+ for a US version if they ever make one.

Who cares how safe it "feels"? What we drive is our own choice. You can die in anything. How is a Smart doing 80 any scarier than doing 120 on a GSXR? Or riding shotgun with J.T. in the GSXR Sammi!?! It might not be long before you're not allowed to buy that big 'ol Super Doodie because a hulking beast like that is too much of a threat to the smaller, more ecologically responsible cars on the road! We can't be endangering those that are trying to fix the planet, can we? (Tongue in cheek, BTW.) Seriously, though. My biggest concern is the ecological impact the Tata is going to have. Cheap car, just another reflection of how disposable our society is becoming. What do you do when it's dropped the tranny at 45k, and it's going to cost $1200 to repair it? It's getting crushed. The materials in it are probably the barrel-scrapings of post-consumer materials already, so there's little left to recycle. And the damage is already done by the factory it was built in dumping all it's waste into the Indian Ocean, due to the highly unregulated industry there. OK, maybe that's speculation, but probably not far from the truth.

Why do we need a car that cheap anyway? Buy used and help keep a mechanic in business. Or get a Kia. What ever happened to saving up to get something you want?

There are plenty of $2300 Jeeps and Yotas that will far outlast a Tata (assuming the Jeeps and Yotas are left stock, and driven normally on the street like most econo cars). I know which I would rather have.
