OK, so I bought a 97 ZJ Limited with all the bells and whistles for decently cheap considering its physical condition.

Like others I've got plenty of electrical failures and if anyone can help, I'd be very appreciative.

Power seats. Driver side does not work at all and is gansta leaned back. I've tested all the connections to the motors and they show continuity even shows left right up down power. Now I have a hard time believing that all 3 motors are blown (lumbar, forward/back motion, and up down of the back is blown). I smacked the horizontal motion motor with a wrench while holding the button hoping to get some movement out of it, but still nothing.

So, If I'm getting power to the motors and the motors still aren't working, what am I missing? Passenger side still works btw, so that eliminates a fuse I would think.

There are other problems, but thats one I'd like to fix very very soon.

have you checked the screw mechanism? I had one that I replaced the seat in, and when I looked at the workings after the fact, the screw drive was rusty and binding up...

Unbolt the motor and see if it spins freely, that could tell you something...

I thought about that too, but ALL 3 motors not working. I don't want to replace a motor when there is no reason to. I guess I need to grab a power source and touch the contacts of the motor to see what happens. I just don't get how the switch connection has power but the motor doesn't respond one bit.

Where did you pick up the spares? Junkyard or retail parts store?

I was saying to just remove the motor and test it, to see if it works... if you look at the underside of the seat, the screw mechanism controls most of the motion... check the screw to make sure it is clear from rust and debris...

ohh ok I gotcha. Yeah there is a shat ton of hair down there from the previous owner. From the amount you'd expect a beast of a woman. The passenger side back forth motor is grinding, I'd expect similar conditions.

gonna pull the frame off the seat Sat AM to see whats going on.

Another problem I'm trying to figure out. Got an engine misfire on cyl #2.

Pulled the cable and plug and both seem clean and fine. Figure my next step will be to reroute all wires so none cross, or should I just buy some new wires and reroute those? Also, don't know what this is, but it was knocking like crazy: Located front right next to airbox

I have a 97 zj and mine does not have anything like that.

have you checked plugs? any codes? i know that sounds like a dumb question but the more info we know the easier it is to help!

id start by taking the plug out and looking at conditions/gap etc. if all is good look at the injectors, if its damp might have a bad injector.

i know my f150 had a leaking injector that drove me CRAZY cause it wasnt enough ofa misfire to throw a code! gotta love a ford :/

lemme know how it goes
