On my way to Charleston for a couple days. Was a spur of the moment thing. Any suggestions?

Eat! So much good food down there, so little time.

Shameless plug...my cousin is a multi-generation Charlestonian and works at a little southern cooking place on Meeting St. They have shrimp creole I think it's on Wednesdays that's pretty darn good (and just like my momma used to make). Home, Jestine's Kitchen Cousin is Mary Chris. if you go tell her that her Sanford cousins said hey.

Other favorite eats (mostly Mt. Pleasant area):

Wreck of the Richard & Charlene (seafood)
Shem Creek Bar & Grill (shrimp and grits was good)
Saveurs Du Monde Café (french cafe/bakery...great for breakfast) (the owners are interesting to talk to if you happen to catch them there. French family was several years into a round the world sail with their kids, found Charleston, and stayed).

If you happen to go to Palmetto State Armory, there is a little bar in the same lot called Manhattans. Great wings, best fries ever.

EDIT: when someplace like Charleston, NEVER eat at a chain restaurant. You can do that at home. We always ask the locals where they eat, get some good recommendations that way. Last trip, one place at Mount Pleasant several locals mentioned was Pages Okra Grill....but the couple of times we tried to go, it was closed due to iirc a water line break.

If you like oysters, bowens island is tops

If you like tours Classic Carriage has a nice carriage tour. Ask for Justin tell him Glenn sent you his way. Favorite brewery and Pizza is Frothy Beard and Zombie Pizza....

As has been said...eat! Depends on your taste/budget of course. Here's a couple of random places we like.

Stellas - Greek - downtown Stella's Charleston.

Wild Olive - Italian -Johns Island (literally across the street from my house) - Wild Olive Restaurant Walk over to Lowtide Brewing next door and have good beer. Or just skip the Italian and have food truck food and beer

O-ku - Sushi/Japanese - downtown - we only go for happy hour sushi on Monday/Wednesday/Friday cause its half price, but it's the best. Gotta make a reservation. O-Ku Sushi Charleston – O-Ku celebrates authentic Asian cuisine with a southern approach.

Rodney Scotts BBQ - downtown - Home | Rodney Scott's BBQ

I'll second @kaiser715 suggestion of Pages Okra Grill. Welcome - Page's Okra Grill - Mount Pleasant, South Carolina If we go, it's Sunday after church and it's always busy. Might not be as crazy midweek.

As long as the weather's good, walking downtown is always enjoyable. Lower King below Calhoun Street if you want shopping and Upper King above Calhoun for food/bars. Maybe catch a show at Charleston Music Hall or the Music Farm if somebody good is in town.

If you've got kids, hit up the James Island County Park for the Holiday Festival of Lights. $20 a car, couple mile loop of lights. They've got a carousel and a "train ride", fair type food, picture with Santa and a gift shop.

What kind of stuff you like to do?

Just the wife and me. Spent the evening walking around downtown. Pretty cool area, lots of awesome architecture. Planning on going to Patriot point tomorrow. Haven't even got a hotel yet.

Okra is good.
Red drum in Mt Pleasant has great seafood. Best scallops I’ve ever had.
SALT is good as well.

Halls has the best steak in Charleston

Yea you could spend a week walking around downtown looking at awesome houses and old buildings.

If you liked downtown, it’s nice at the Battery or on the swings in Waterfront Park down by the pineapple fountain.

Let me know where you end up staying...I’ll let you know (the best I can anyway) what’s good and close by. If the weather is like it was today, I’d at least hit a beach somewhere for a walk.

Rainbow Road is a pretty cool sight with all the different color houses, another thing is go to Patriots Point and tour the U.S.S. Yorktown. The old carrier is just a real interesting piece of history. Not to mention a great way to walk of some of that great food

Had Okra grill for supper. It was pretty good.

Ended up at the Best Western Patriots Point. Fixing to head for a day of fun and maybe some lumber quality checks.

If you like Craft Beer there are 27 different ones in Charleston area now. Westbrook has a beautiful tap room. I've been wanting to get back to Patriots Point. I really want to visit Fort Sumter some day. I almost forgot to recommend the Hunley Museum. We found it a couple years ago heading to Coast Brewing.
