im going to build myself a long arm kit for my xj (89 xj 4.0 6+1/2 lift) but i like driving it to work and on the high way so i was wondering about a few things 1 i would like to move my axle forward about 2 or 3 inches is this possible with out changing any thing besides the control arms 2 ive been studying buy and bolt long arm upgrades and have seen different control arm setups the one im thinking about going with is the y type where the uca is attached to the lca is this safe at 70mph and 3 i have made a new cross member with flanges for lca is it better to make it bolt here or further up on the frame thanks for any help and if there are any links that mite help please lit me know

If you move your axle forward you may have problems with you steering box. Make sure you have crossover steering instead of the y link factory style.

Raduis arm style LA's will inherantly bind. No doubt, a true 3 link is the way to go. Lower CA mounts are easy and Poly Performance makes a killer frame side mount for a 3 link on an XJ.
You can move your front axle forward a little bit w/o issue. You will have steering bind if you move it too much.
But, it is much easier to move your rear back on an XJ.

i do have cross over steering it came on the dana 44 i have up front but i kept the 4 link design that the xj came with are there advantages to going 3 link and is it worth the trouble to change and my main concern is keeping it road worthy shes to pretty to pull on a trailer lol and thanks for the quick reply's

well i made my bumper and can be changed but my tires just seem a little far back a inch or so mite be enough how far did you move yours up and what size tires do you run im running 33's with a 6 1/2 lift and ive been checking around and think im going to go with the y style 4 link with the heim ends from barns 4wd any opinions on this as in road worthy i think they will help with the front end bind prob but still give me the strength of a 4 link
