a few days ago it started sputtering/missing a bit, but not all the time and quit in higher rpms. it has progressively gotten worse. now it sputters idling and all the way up to about 5k. i just installed plugs a week ago, but to check i installed the old ones again (they werent very old). checked the wires by pulling 1 at a time while running to make sure it got worse, it did each time so i know its firing. i have an egr block off plate, but put the egr back on to test, it did nothing. i pulled the plate off for egr and cleaned it and the ports (they were real nasty with carbon, didnt help. took throttle body off, cleaned all of it and the iacv and the other thing i cant remember its name. swapped map sensor with another one. it has an external msd coil now, i rewired it because who ever swapped it did a horrible job. pulled the injectors and checked them by disconnecting 1 at a time (run worse each time) so i know there squirting.

i didnt change fuel filter but i really dont think thats it.
checked compression, all good.
i have worked on this all day and am tired of it. i done the things i could before spending money to try stuff. i think it may be something in the firing, coil could not be firing as it should. i am going to swap it with another soon. or the ecu.

i know it can be a number of things, i am going down the list, but if anyone has any advice or suggestions, i would really appreciate it. i will be away and wont get back to it til monday.
thanks

distributer? coils?

Check for vacuum leaks with some brake cleaner. Spray it around the intake area and see if the idle speeds up.

check the rotor button. dont know why but hondas are bad to do that. have seen several cars do that and put in a new rotor
cleared right up.

have replaced cap and rotor, no change
plug wires are fairly new
plugs new
ran new vacuum lines
checked coil, its good
none of above helped
put on adjustable fuel pressure, it helped. now it will go fine in high rpms, mostly anyways.
ordered o2 sensor, has 2 though. will see.
any other ideas.

Coolant temp sensor. Common on some hondas. We swapped a motor in my friends civic. It had the same symtoms. Changed a bunch of stuff, and then finally someone online told him to change his cts and it worked. Runs like a top now.

i was going to say O2 sensors also, I got a 97 civic HB that would sputtering/missing and now and then it would cut off on me at a red light, put in two new O2 sensors and that fixed it.
