I found out last night that a buddy of mine and his wife were killed in a hit and run motorcycle accident on Father's Day. He's been a good friend to me for several years, he was my right hand man coaching different levels of football the last 5 years, he's a vet, he leaves behind 2 sons that have been good friends to my brothers, his nephew was one of my best friends growing up. I just ate a few hot dogs with the man on Saturday. I'm confused as to why the offender wasn't strung up 2 decades ago:

Farook abandoned his car and fled on foot, authorities said.
Farook, 50, was released from prison in September after he was convicted of stabbing and cutting his ex-wife in 2000, according to N.C. Department of Corrections online records.
Prior to attacking his ex-wife, Farook was convicted of shooting Willie Ronald Smith in the head at close range in 1990.
Smith was found lying in the middle of Grant Street.
Farook spent two years on the run before surrendering to authorities in Los Angeles in 1992.

I know everything happens for a reason, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this one. 2 great people are gone and a great family is affected forever, while some waste of flesh is still out there not man enough to take responsibility. If anyone hears or sees anything, I'm sure any info would be appreciated.

Very sorry about your friends. :(

This sort of stuff is always hard to take... even when you don't know the people. This is my best answer for the POS that did it...

So sorry to hear, I read the article yesterday (at first it didn't release names) and I was afraid it was maybe someone I knew since I know a lot that live in that area. The other driver's record sickened me when I read it. Prayers for their family and friends, you included.

Very sorry to hear about your friend and his wife. That is just awful. How old are their two sons?

they are later 20s 25-30ish...

this is the type of thing that makes me think the do your time and get out system doesnt work.

I know the alternative isnt any better, but these repeat offenders, who get 5-7...do their bid, get out and kill someone else bugs the shit out of me.

Thanks guys...I'm doing fine, I feel worse for the family/kids than anything. The weirdest thing for me though, I JUST frickin saw him, and now I won't again.

If anything, this makes you appreciate the time you have with anyone that's close to you all the more. The family is in my prayers.

that just makes you sick.

I'd love to have a bike, but this is why I don't. I DO NOT trust other drivers on the road, they scare me!

Darlene and I rode for over 10 years, and we did several long-distance trips. I got to the point of not being comfortable on the highway on a bike (can't explain why) and sold my last one in 1992. Haven't been on one since.

It is a shame that a worthless piece of trash like that is still allowed to walk the streets. Prayers sent to you and there families.

looks like the car turned left in front of the bike. is that correct?
same thing happened to me--hit the car in the same place.
i guess i was lucky cause all i got was a broken back and spinal
cord injury--wheelchairs are my friend.

i'm sorry for your loss-- stupid people drive every day.
and wonderfull people loose their lives because of it.
