This winch any good???

Well, you get what you pay for.
Why do you think it's so inexpensive?

It might work 1,000 times.
It might work once.

What will you be doing at the moment it fails?

IMO if you are using a winch for emergency recovery, then it better work when that emergency comes... not sure I'd trust something that cheap for that situation.

For a couple bucks more you can get a smittybilt winch, from any of the many companies out there. They sometimes offer free shipping, and plenty of people running the XRC series winch.
Plus you have a good point of contact if it does go bad.

The only time I've ever been in these "emergency" situations was when I was illegal wheeling in high-school and needed to get out of there before someone came. With that said, I have a Warn 8274 that has been trouble free and super fast. I bought it for $300. In the past few years all its done is pull me out of high centers, and free bushes from the grasp of the earth around my house.

I have this winch, it works like a champ. Faster than the warns I have wheeled with. And it has yet to fail me, and I take horrible care of it. I have pulled out many vehicles, including fullsize trucks, and only have had to use it 3 times for my self. I have had it since last christmas and would buy another and would have no problem telling you too. Only thing I would change is the cable and get some rope. IMHO, buy it if you are on a budget, or want a cheap, very good, winch.

Hey Tireburner, can you tell us, is this the winch thatHarbor Freight sells? They have upgraded their winches[ or so I was told], I think it's called "Badland", or similar. Those sepc. look very familiar. I did notice, "don't operate under full load for more than 1 min." Several top brand winches ran several hours, one night in Coal Creek!:shaking:

Warn VR series.Check it out.

....The gear selector switch and boots on the wire terminations look JUST LIKE those of my XRC8..... Just saying.

I was always happy with the xrc. Might be worth a little researching...

I have no idea if its the same as the harbor freight one. It looks similar to a few out there. I have ran mine for much longer than 1 minute. I usually let my charging system take a break on long pulls but thats just because I haven't upgraded my alternator or battery.

I've always been a fan of the Warns, but if you can't afford the coin for a Warn that one looks as good as any of the cheap ones I've seen. With free shipping that's certainly the right price. And it may be kind of gimicky, but the wireless remote is pretty cool too. If you're not real confident in your wiring abilities it would keep you from having to hassle with wiring up a set of in cab controls, and it would definitely be handy when winching up saplings and what not in the yard.

So your 8,000lb winch pulled 8,000lbs dead lift for hours?

What its saing is it cant lift 8,000lbs continuously foir more than 1 minute witout a cool down.
