Has anyone found a way to groove thornbirds so they don't suck? I can always find cheap sets, but want tires that work. Any ideas?

I've been wanting to try one of these:

I have a groover, I need inspiration for what to cut out. Ideas?

Cut half of the lugs off, to make it more open, then they might sling some goo and work. Other than using photoshop on a pic, that is all i got. Get creative, they just need to be opened up so they won't pack full of mud. That is what I think anyway. I'm all about some homebrew cheap stuff/mods that work.

The tires have a very hard tread compound that will severely limit any rock/hard pack performance regardless of grooving.

I with most opinions that you'll find around here. Thornbirds aren't worth the effort. All show, no go. Now, I'm not saying you can't prove us wrong by grooving a set and reporting on how they perform. Someone has to, might as well be you!

That ought to get r dun

Take the groover, set the blade at about an inch deep and go to town on the side walls, this will get the best results for thornbirds!!

That tire that got the severe grooving actually looks pretty awesome. I bet it would ride sweet on the road. Thanks for all the input, if I find a nearly free set I may try it.
