I would use two bolts on the next version. The current location and drill&tap the bearing cap to prevent the keeper from moving around.

B. forget all about it till it shows it's face again
I have never fixed one like that, but, in a bind, I have however welded a washer to the accomplish the same thing. It's amazing what you will come up with on the trail !

Plenty come in with washer's welded in the snap ring grooves Chip. lol
