i am looking into purchasing a 2005 chevy tahoe Z71 4x4 w/ 5.3L Votec V8 . anyone have any experience with these or know anything(s) to watch out with these?

Intake gaskets, wheel bearings, fuel pumps....there's a few other things, but I can't remember them right off hand.

Intake gaskets happen, but aren't as common as everybody says. I've never done them on my '99.

Fuel pump problems are usually just from the sending units, they get gummed up and read funny, nothing really wrong with the pumps.

Wheel bearings can be had much cheaper than parts houses if you look on Ebay Stores. I got two shipped for cheaper than one at the local Auto Zone.

Hope that helps you out some!

damn thats not bad at all. all things that can be done fairly cheap and not too much time.

Thanks

uncle has a 03 or so with 116k runnin strong. no major problems. had to replace the ac comp. but he dont take care of any of his vehicles.

wifes 01 has 165...just startin to address a few minor issues.

Other than whats mentioned above, the tranny is known to have heeat issues if you tow much, though being an off road additiona it may have the auxiliary cooler, which helps a little bit.

Also there is a known issue on the 5.3 where the o ring at the oil pump neck leaks and causes a loss of oil pressure. Not a huge deal if caught, if not the low oil pressure can take out the engine.

One final thing to add, the seatlerships are damn near giving away the new ones to anyone with good credit, I do not encourage purchasing a new one, but just know that the new car price cut will trickle down to use car pricing in the next ~6months. IOW you need to be paying under KBB private party by in my estimation 10-15%

I work with a guy that has an 05. He pulls quite a few boats across Nc to lake Norman with no probs what so ever.

thanks everyone . i have been going through the gauntlet with the dealership for a couple days now trying to decide on all the BS . amount, down payment, monthly payment, more shit i want ahahahah so *fingers crossed* we will see.

think ill request that the oil pump neck o-ring gets replaced next :D
