im not sure if this is where it goes so feel free to move.

with my tax money i will be getting new shocks all the way around. any thoughts on some? mostly used for dd but some offroad. anyone have specials on a 4pk purchase?
4.5/6 in lift range. want ideas on what everyones running. thanks

noone?

I like Bilsteins. Check out the 5100s or whatever... the silver ones, not the yellow ones.

They're a bit more expensive, though.

yeah ive seen those @ work. they are like $150 a piece. and i dont get a discount bc they are vendor items. just figured vendor/shop on here would make me a better deal on 4, and would rather buy local....

BDS. Good stuff for the $ and a no BS warranty.
Just my opinion.
Tarheel 4wd. 704.598.1000
Ron and Jake are badass.

Any monotube shock will be an upgrade. The 5100's are nice, 4wp has them for around 300 a set right now. Much less than 150 a piece...

Fox would be my choice.

I run these in the rear of my 4Runner and Fox Coilovers in the front.

I run Rancho 9000's on all my trucks and have for about 13-14 years. The fact that they are easily adjustable makes it a no brainer for me. I have been 100% happy with them and will recommend them for as long as they are available. They make them up to 36" long.

Just my opinion. Good luck with you choice.

You're probably going to see someone recommend some kind of Rancho or other twin-tube shock, saying how they are very happy and all that...

Nothing will accurately and reliably control body movement like a high pressure monotube shock. Bilstein 5100/5125's were about $80 each last time I looked.

I run the Pro Comp ES9000s. No shock expert here, but they do just fine by me. Nothing amazing, they just do the job. And they're $30-$40 depending on length. I order mine from amazon.

If you don't mind spending twice that then go with the Bilsteins. You WILL be happy with those.

Call Will (brokeass4runner) at 4 wheel parts in Charlotte and mention you are from the board. He will get you a good price on the Bilsteins, or any other shock for that matter.

I vote for bilsteins. I just picked up 4 5150s (the reservoir ones) for $380. The 5100/5125s can be had for under $300. They are worth it IMO.

Although for a decent cheaper shock, you could probably find some Monroe monotubes, and cross reference the length/valving you need to some other vehicle's application, since IIRC you work at an auto parts store? (As in stock f250-350 shocks work great for a leveled Chevy 2500HD, they are about an inch longer, and make up for the retarded mistake some GM engineer made in letting the shocks completely top out about 1/4" before the suspension hit's the droop stops.)

I guess that answers that. No need to ask for any more opinions.

im running the 5150s up front and the 5100s out back def a good choise if you can afford them get em you want regret it!!

expert advice from a toyota owner lol

im running 5100 in the back of my 4runner and BBC shocks in the front with the bump stops. I like both of them.

What kind of use are we talking?
I had Bilstein 5100s in teh rear of my 4Runner, I liked them - but when I used them in a race (Line Mountain), they faded pretty quickly. Broke one (when the mount broke) and now shopping for something more suited to those needs.

IIRC I got them for something like $65/ea shopping around online.

Just my opinion but shocks are only as good as the rest of you suspension. You can get the most expensive and so called best shock around but if you have a set of cheap stiff springs you ride quality will still suck.

As for the shocks I like, I just started running rough country's 2.2 shock so I haven't really formed an opinion as of yet. But I ran RC's 9000 series shock for sveral years and really like them.
