I need make my upper on my rk long arm double adjustable. I ordered a 1 1/4 12 rh threaded crawler joint and I'm concerned about the Id after it's drilled and tapped with it being a 3 link. The upper control arm is 1 3/4 solid alloy if it's a problem I can get Dom and just make a new upper but it would save me time and money these way.

Yes. I'm just concerned about the wall thickness after it is threaded. Being solid I have no clue what proper wall thickness needs to be after its tapped, is it the same as dom?

The major diameter of the threads is going to be 1.25. You can do the math from there, it will leave you with 1/4" wall. This should be sufficient. If it really is solid 4130 or other alloy, the machinist is not going to like inside threading it.

Why is that? And thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the info. It being apart of the three link just has me worried..

1/4" wall is plenty. Most people build links with 1/4" wall tubing, right?

4130 is not a bad alloy to machine. Anything with a number for a first digit is cool. A-2, D-2, O-2, etc., that $h!* brings the suck. After you've machined Inconel effectively, everything else is cake.

I was just going to say, that's an easy alloy to machine. We do 4140 a lot at work. 1018 sucks though, it's gummy. T1 can be a bitch!

Anyway, they'd toss it in a lathe, bore it to the proper minor diameter (internal thread), and then run a threading bar through it. Simple enough. Trying to run a tap through that would suck!

I think I know what kamel has been working on iconel is some good stuff

That's what genright is using in there three link kit 1/4 id. I called Justin at rock krawler and he is going to send me there new upper witch has Monster Krawler Joint PRO 1 IN - 14 on both ends problem solved.

Without doing the math, I'm 99.9% sure you'll bend the 1" shank well before you'd bend the 1/4" wall threaded portion of the link or strip the threads. I personally would stick with the 1-1/4" stuff.
