As far as the law, your good the cop is wrong, fight it yourself. Take a printout of that statute from the link of NC website posted earlier. And if you can something that shows your vehicle is factory 4wd. (title,registration, maybe a build sheet from Chrysler with the VIN number on it). That May be important as your liberty is not on a truck frame but is equipped with a part time T-case and front drive assembly. (leaf off the extent of modifications when talking to him and tell him the cop just guessed at the height). IF you cant get all this together before hand go and file for an ext. you could probably just quote the statute and tell him its a 4wd liberty and the DA will let you off. There actually kinda reasonable, at least in union county they are. Unless you've just done something really dumb. I've had them laugh at some of the stuff I've been ticketed for.
That being said, I'm no lawyer but i really think you should have no trouble getting this dropped yourself. Chances are the cop wont even be there too back up his story. (I've never had one show, as they don't need to there cops. There word is always right
