I bought a new (refurb'd) 43" plasma from Tiger Direct. I buy all my stuff there so figured it was a good price so I'll go for it.

Got it on Thursday before I left for the beach.

The TV was in a box that was just barely bigger than the TV, TV was covered in a thin plastic sheet. That box was inside of a bigger box with four foam pads in the corners snugging it up in the center of the box. That was all the padding it had. Then the stand was wedged between the two boxes.

Of course, the TV screen was shattered when I got it. Assholes. They are refunding me my money, I'm picking up my new TV from Sears tonight.

That is on the manufacturer to be honest.
If you ever buy a Pnanonic plasma, you will see why I say that. Their is more engineering in their packaging than in most folks entire product.

My last Samsung plasma was packaged to survive a nuclear war. Not sure why this one was packaged so crappy, unless it was packaged by TD or Samsung has decided it is cheaper to ship replacements than it is to pay for packaging. There was also no Samsung logo anywhere on the packaging. I figured that TD repackaged it to make sure no one snatched it off my porch.

Who knows, whoever packed it should be kicked gratuitously in the groinal area.

I looked at NewEgg, but the prices on TVs were very expensive. I just bought another 43" plasma for $449 from Sears that is $560 at Newegg.

Ah yeah, you're right. Ive never used Newegg for televisions, just standard computer items. FWIW, when I was researching to build my computer, the first thing I looked at was who I was going to be buying from. Tiger Direct got dinged quite a few times for shipping issues, just like yours. Newegg had next to none, so thats why I chose them.

agreed.

Plus, there's some things that just shouldn't be ordered online if you expect to get it undamaged.

That's kind of what I was thinking, but I've ordered a bunch of monitors from TD before with no problems. Figured it would be ok.

It also came via UPS, which is a whole different issue
