Our 15 year old traditional freezer-on-top Kenmore/Whirlpool fridge is pooling water on the top shelf of the refrigerated section, looks like its dripping from the freezer thru the 2 "vents" into the fridge. Any idea what I could check/fix?

Agreed. I fought with this on mine for a while. what eventually worked was a syringe and a pot of boiling water down the condensate drain to melt the ice blockage. Has been fine ever since

What about a fridge that dispenses ice and water and the water no longer works. I haven't had a chance to chase it back and check the filter and stuff. It just happened. And where is the water line ran into the door? Does it come through one of the hinges or something? Kind of tripped me out when I glanced at it yesterday.

Its a side by side deal.

The water connection is usually down on the bottom by the hinge. Probably a clear plastic hose with a quick connect on it. It's just the door water that quit? Not the ice maker? I'd bet on a bad switch if it's just the door water. The ice maker runs through the same filter... and that filter would have to get really, really clogged to suddenly and completely shut off the water flow.

Don't really use the ice that much I'll look into it tonight, see what I can break. Maybe my roommate that owns the place wants a new one anyways.

woah seasick

yeah that video sucked, but I watched it, seemed to help.

Got it all tore apart, I used a water bottle full of tap water, then sponge to soak up, repeat. After 10-15x, it unplugged. Wifey's gonna be disappointed, she was already fridge shopping :D

ah see now is your chance to score some brownie points (or more often in my case, get-out-of-the-doghouse credit)
Tell her you're sorry she doesn't get a new fridge, but since you just saved $800, she can go get a pedicure with the "found" money. It'll pay back in the long run :D

Empty the fridge and leave it unplugged for the weekend. I have had this happen a couple times over the years. Seems to really start when the humidity is way up and the kid stands in front with the door wide open for 10 min trying to figure out that there is nothing she wants.

btt...just had to do this again. Any ideas what causes the drain line to ice up?

More importantly - did you do the wife pedicure thing?
If not - it's karma.

You should have a defrost timer usually located at bottom with dial that can be turned with flat screwdriver only clockwise. It turns on defrost heater in freezer to melt frost and there is drain heater to melt ice or frost in drain line. I think maybe drain heater is bad.
