Currently running 38.5x16r15 tsl bias. I kinda like the width but am not stuck with it. Any suggestions on what tire I should run. The jeep is a trail rig that sees some road time locally. I really want something that will perform great on terrain like the Flatts in Marion. Right now I'm debating on the tsl or tsl sx. I always see creepy crawlers doing well but not an ideal size for me. DISCUSS!

I want to stick with a 38.5-39.5 ideally

What about the non sticky Maxxis Trepador Bias? I heard they are awesome tires and have tough sidewalls. They would be streetable unlike the sticky treps

EDIT: they don't have them for a 15" rim any bigger than 35" so unless you want to change rims they won't work

40" treps are about 700 a tire from what I've seen. New wheels on top of that. Yikes. A little out of my price range

Iroks are an option may even ltb'S just curious what some of the guys that have run them might say.

Good to know. Thought about doing a single groove in the center lugs of a set of tsl'S don't know if I could bring myself to start cutting a $1500 set if tires though

What's your thoughts on the width? Wider is more contact so more traction right?

If its any conselation, bias play 39.5" iroks are probably the lightest of the pushing 40 sizes. They weigh in at ~75lbs per tire iirc and seem to be more gentle on half ton axles.
And to make note: my 42" iroks are unbalanced and ride pretty dang smooth up to 80 mph.

I love my boggers at the flats, but I think pit bulbs might do well. I have some 39.5s and they have done really well in the mud, have not tried them on rocks and such. Road wise they are alright. Not the easiest to balance but no bias ply is from what I've seen. Some tire manufacters are stricker on balanceing than interco or pit bull, but if you want performance, other things will have to hit the back burner.

if you plan to street drive much, iroks wont last. I would suggest a maxxis or bfg for that. TSL is better than irok for lasting. Of your choices, I would go with the SX, but the half tons arent going to like the added weight.

Street ability isn't a big deal I trailer it anywhere I'm gonna beat on it. Just drive it to the local lake trails occasionally. Guess I should look into the extra weight of the sx. I'm not super concerned about the extra thickness as I've not had a problem out of my tsl's but the side wall traction would be nice.

The tsl sx only comes in a 38.5×12.5 or 14.5. As opposed to the 38.5x16 tsl. That being said would yall run a 38.5x14.5 tsl sx or 38.5x16 tsl bias?

A wider tire will spread the weight over a larger contact patch so you have less force p.s.i. of contact area, but you also have more contact area. Its a bit of a trade off and depends on grip and terrain.

Stick with the tsls Marc. They work great. Invest in some weld ons and you'll be good to go.

Weld ons are defiantly happening.

Just don't cut the outer lugs of tsl's and they'll be alright
