Time for tires...need some opinions

Ok....so i've got 32/11.5's on my stock 93 toyota. They rub a little when i turn....which doesn't bother me THAT bad.

The front tires are in pretty damned good shape...the rear, not so much. The rear passenger's tires is basically bald...and it's time to figure out replacements.

Now...where you guys come in:

1. Buy 2 more 32/11.5 BF AT's and just deal with the rubbing

2. Buy 4 31/10.5 BF AT's and jsut sell the 2 good 32's

3. Buy some BJ spacers and a 2" body lift...and move up to 33's or 35's or something....

my opinion (but..i'm easily swayed)
1. cheapest route.....i do want to get black rock crawlers to replace the asshole ugly hurricanes that came on the truck. I can deal fine with the rubbing...doesn't bug me too bad. Truck does suck on gas though...and i drive about an hour total (to-from hickory everyday)

2. more expensive than just buying 2 32's..but possible more get up and go, possibly better mileage, and...i do want to get black wheels anyways.

3. most expensive option...but, it'd be lifted! would suck, casue re-gearing...and might as well lock it then...and then i've got to worry about stuff maybe breaking...so...yeah..my least option right now.

so........let me hear it

SAS, 37's and Dual cases...whoops its a DD...

31x10.50 or 32x11.50's in an AT and just drive it until you are willing to dedicate it to being a rig...if you plan on wheeling it on occasion the AT's will be fine for now.

imma either buy a 1st gen, early 2nd get toyota, or an xj this summer to work on for rig. honestly, this truck will see it's fair share of abuse (as it has allready) but, it'll never be a full on rig.

if you can find a 1st gen with a solid frame then go for it...im glad I bought mine when I did. As anyone will tell you...they make good rigs on a budget, but you can still build em like mad if you want to.

Well, if all tires were put on at the same time, and two are bald, I recommend you start maintenance, as in rotating your tires. I assume you can set the stops on your front to limit turning radius, I know most solid axles have this, but I have never had a IFS front, so that may or may not be an option. If you stay with the wheels you hate, get some spacers. but you will need them front and rear if you want it to look right. Spacers may create another problem with the tires rubbing the fenders instead of suspension parts. If you go with new wheels you could always get some with less back spacing to move the tire out. It's hard to beat the BFG's but I bought a set of Buckshot Maxis mudders that are wearing really well. and they cost less then the BFG's.

i deff want to go with some black wheels.....i'm a ricer, i can't help it....but more so cause the wheels i have are horrible.

but, there's no suspension rub..it's just hitting the inner sheet metal up front, i think. i really gotta get under there and find it

and, as for the front being good/rear bad...i just bought the truck a few months back, and thats just how it was when i got it. the fronts are considerably newer, as well.

i'll look into the maxxis..

so, where's a good place, locally or online, to buy wheels/tires?

Here's a thought:

I can tell you where your rubbing is.
At full lock, it is at the very bottom inner corner of the rear of teh fender. Many guys just pound the crap out of it so it's more flat and avoids the rub. However with a 32x11.5 it will still rub on hilly turns etc.
Easiest.cheapest way to deal with it is to get a 4Crawler 1" body lift. Problm w/ the BJ spacers is that you still need a way to lift the back end (coils, extended shackles, etc)

just get a set of 31 DD truck tires and save your money for a 1st gen or xj.....................plain and simple. if your driving that much your just hurting yourself by lifting it or going up in tire size. DD the truck and save for rig or etc.............

I agree with alot of the guys here get you the smaller tire and run them. if you tear the bigger tires up your just going to keep having to buy them. get the alignment checked when you get the tires put on too.

i pm'd the guy about the swampers....would love to grab them.

so...are hurricanes's worth ANYTHING? I only say that..cause imma get some of hte black steel wheels as well, when i get tires.

i say go with some 235's and get those MPG's up and save some cash for a trail rig/whatever. My F-150 has 235's on it and I love it because I know they are the most economical thing i can have on there.

well....i need to have semi-decent tires on my truck....i still do some stuff in it, and i tow my own, and a few other bikes around when we hit up some shuttle runs...but, the more i think about it....i deff don't want to lift this one......considering i want a full on rig this summer

unless the guy with the swampers comes through, i prob will just get matching ones....it'll just be the cheapest route out.

but, a body lift...i'll have to find one first. only thing, CHEAP, i can find is 3" ones....i don't want more than 2" at most...

do ya'll think a 1" will clear the tires?

Yes, 1" will clear the tires.

and while at it see this FAQ re: tires and lift

Or, I'm getting ready to order the parts to make one for my own 4Runner out of teh same stuff roger (4Crawler) uses, if you want I could get/make the mounts for you as well, it'd be cheaper for both of us that way if it all coems form the same UHMW rod.

If you really want to do a 2nd trail-only rid, them get some 30 or 31" tires, A/T for this puppy. It will get better mpgs and pep.
