Time serts

Anybody know time serts? I have a unique situation where I need to make a 1/2-13 bolt hole into a 3/8-16. What is the drill and tap size for the 3/8-16 time sert? I am wondering if I could just pick up some inserts and screw them in.

Are you talking about a helicoil?

time-serts are supposedly 'better' than a helicoil. are factory recommended for headbolt repairs in aluminum engines. Also factory repair for stripped filter plate bolt holes in allison 3000/4000 series transmissions.

If you look up there website, they have standard and big-sert kits.

Timeserts are the shit. Sorry not sure of drill size, my kit is at the shop.

Fastenal sells them, they have a chart that gives the drill sizes as well. I use them all the time, they destroy a junky little helicoil

Keenserts make both of the above options look silly and no need to retap the hole. Mcmaster sells them

UPDATE here. Ordered some 3/8-16 off ebay and they came in this afternoon. Looks like the threads are going to match up fine with 1/2-13.
