Time Warner modem lease

Step one: Dig old cell phone out of junk drawer.
Step two: Plug into charger.
Step three: Enjoy your free "we need a phone so the kids can call 911" phone.

We keep a house phone not for the 911 aspect, but because my 9 year old is getting to the age where she is calling her school friends after school and I'm not about to hand her my cell phone to do so. She will get a cell phone when she is 16 and most likely not a day before. She will most likely be one of the first in her grade to get her license so odds are good that she won't need a phone "out with her friends" up until that point.

At some point in the not too distant past they stuck an $8.00/mo lease on my bill. Doesn't take long to buy my own modem so I will do that now that this thread reminded me.

My last modem lasted from 2006 until maybe a year and a half ago when I received a letter stating that it needed to be replaced. It was probably about 7-1/2 years old, so the idea that they do not last long doesn't make sense. I have a cable surge on my line to keep things from blowing up.

Upgraded from DOCIS 2.0 to a 3.0 modem. Speed went from 20 mb/s down 2 up to 95 mb/s down 12 up. I've never seen a 3 gig torrent download so fast.
