Anybody gone to one of the timeshare "free weekends"? How's the sales pitch? Got a friend that's been to a few of them, invited us to go on a trip (they just do the free weekend thing, endure the sales presentation). Not sure if I really want to put myself thru it or not.

Never been to one, but I've heard from several people that getting away from the sales people is hell. If you can stare coldly into a person's eyes, tell them that you're just there for the free weekend, and then listen while they blast you for being a mooch then I'd say go for it. If you're a pushover or afraid to tell someone to STFU in real life then just give up now and don't go.

That was well put! I got involved in one while on vacation south of the border. It was kinda funny to me. They had my wife hooked while I sat there saying "no" for 1.5hrs, they kept bringing me beer:D. It still sucked and I'll never give into a speech again.

Hehe, yea, we were having fun with em in Vegas.
Wife and I look good on paper for suckers, I mean customers.

So we hit 3 of them in the 10 days we were there for various free shows.
Argued with the little people at the counter for like "Come on, you know you guys can give more than just 1 set of tickets."
For one of them (I forget which) we got cirque du soleil tickets, the tournament of kings, and a 100$ gc to delmonico. :D

These were also shorter, like 2-3 hour pitches.

As for the weekend one, done one, was miserable. Cause they had friday evening meet/greet. (required) Sat morning sales pitch until ~2
Sat evening dinner was "provided" as was another pitch. Sunday they tried having a required lunch pitch, but we just left.

They suck.. I got a portable TV out of mine back in the day when those were a hot item. It wasnt worth the 4 hr sales pitch and trying to dodge the salesman.. Explosive diarreah excuse only works for so long.

I could see the weekend pitch sucking the major big one, they have you trapped. My wife and I attended one locally, the catch was $50 restaurant gift cert. and an attractions coupon book. It was funny, they had an office setup in an industrial complex, nice storefront, etc. We sat in a large room with 15-20 other people, listened to the spiel, then they broke us down and we went one on one with salesperson. They were relentless, we felt a little guilty in the beginning, trying to be polite, and refusing, finally it got to us strait out saying we were only here for the free dinner, so hook us up please. They wouldnt accept that, and continued the hard sell. Finally they made us sign something waiving our right to any offers their company would ever offer, they gave us the schwag, and politely showed us to the door...not the front door we came in, it was the back door. It was funny, the door slammed behind us, there was no handle to it if we needed to get back in, and we were standing next to their dumpster. No cars, no nothing out back, it reminded me of the cover to "Wish You Were Here" with the large non-descrpipt buildings. We had to walk all the way around the complex and find the front parking lot. It was the most interesting FU I've recieved, we laughed about it at dinner

I've been to a few. They ususlly give away some good stuff. It is kind of fun to just sit there and say NO about 300 times. They finally see that you are a lost cause and give up.

I bet those people make bank when they do sell!

Went to one in Tahoe a couple years ago while I was on vacation. Pitch was about 2-3 hours and we got free lift tickets and free ski rentals for the next day. They even shuttled us there and back and gave us food and drinks free. Not too bad. Never signed anything and gave them a fake address and phone number...

Wow im suprised you got by with all that. It doesnt sound half as grueling as all the other stories!

It reminds me of that show King of Queens where Doug takes Keri on "vacation" but really its the same deal as you were talking about.

Yea i watch alot of TV.....:shaking:

We stayed @ a Fairfield in San Diego via a family member's timeshare....they tried signing us up for it & long story short - I got $100 cash to tell them to get bent after 5 minutes.

We ate very well that night.
