I was doing a tuneup on my burban when i busted the ear off of the distributor that the cap bolts to. I replaced the distributor and then had to take it to the dealer to do the final timing do to the computers on the vortecs... They got it to run more smoothly, but told me they couldnt reset the check eng light because the crankshaft position sensor was throwing a constant code... I replaced it, took it in to reset with no luck. I know notice a ticking, like a loud rocker or valve sticking or something(I rev to 2k rpms and i hear the tick keeping pace with eng speed)the check eng light is still on and it misses at all RPM ranges. I dont know if i bought a bad sensor, if i have a failing injector, or if the distibutor i purchased was faulty?

any help will be greatly appreciated guys!!! i need some input on where to start...

was the ticking there prior to the tune up?
did you gap the plugs?
where did the broken ear go?
did you have any problems dropping the distributor in?

there are lots of things it can be.

i highly doubt an injector went bad while you were tuning it up.
why would the crank sensor be bad, was the cel on before the tune up?

are you sure they said crank sensor and not cam sensor?

if it were cam sensor it would have been replaced with the new distributor would it not ?

but I'm also wondering if it is cam or crank sensor.

what codes ?

Sorry for the long response time, I was on an extended vacation. I took my truck to Marine Chevy in Jacksonville. They did the same thIng as me. This is exactly what the mech wrote on my bill, "Costomer states that he recently replaced the distributor and now engine is running rough. Retimed distributor. Code found after retiming P1345 cam crank correlation. Recommend replacing crank sensor. Distributor may be bad."
$200 later and a new sensor, and no change in running condition. Please help me with this guys, my baby is sick!!! She needs to get better!!! Thanks again for any input

Bump... I gave up and took it back to the dealer, it ended up being the electronic components inside the distributor itself, cost me $500 for a GM one(wasn't about to go through a shit one again)

Word of advise, pay for the new GM distributor if you ever need to replace one on your VORTEC
I checked all the local scrapyards and all the Vortec engines were broken down and beat up to the point of it not even being worth attempting to yank.
