Tips for 4wheeling in Snow?

wear a coat

Allow a lot of extra following distance.
You drive like you have an egg under the gas pedal.
Drive as if you have no brakes.
If, you are gonna play, do it with no one around and no ditch, or bank on either side.
Lower air pressure will gain you traction.
There is no control of a vehicle with locked brakes.
There is little control on ice or very packed snow.
accelerate slowly
Have recovery equipment.
Make sure insurance is paid up

I wanted to lower tire pressure, but I didnt want to drive on the roads without fully inflated tires, and I have no Air Compressor on board

You can deflate the tires a lot before it wil lreally be bad for them for regular onroad use. Don't take anty road trips or anything, but getting around town, it won't harm them at like 18-20 psi or osmething. Just makes handling a bit shaky, just don't drive real fast. Which you can't in town in Boone anyway.

I know you're a broke college kid, but if you can scrape up 2 quarters, you can re-inflate at a gas station.

the harder you press the gas, the faster the tires spin...

...the faster the tires spin, the more friction it creates...

Friction=heat

Heat melts snow.

so obviously, just go heavy on the gas pedal

Always remember that momentum is your friend. You have to commit to pretty much everything, considering you can get stuck on flat ground.

...and enemy.

Its that damn good devil on one shoulder and bad devil on the other theory. The bad devil is a much better salesman though:flipoff2:

whats the saying...go as slow as possible, but as fast as necessary!?!

I enjoyed my first wheeling in the snow. Got to play around in 6-8" of fresh snow on some private land near Wolf Laurel. Snow is fun/Ice sux balls

Sure do wish we'd have another decent snow...but it looks like we'll have to wait and hope for next winter. I miss the blizzard of '93...

Somebody's gotta say it... Just ask Dave (35xj), he knows how to 4 wheel in the snow :)
Gotta say though, I'm jealous of anyone that actually gets enough snow to go play on the roads... It's been 2-3 years since we have had enough here to be any fun.

amen

the # 1 tip for driving in snow/ice conditions...........drumroll please..............watch out for all the idiots out there that have NO IDEA how to drive in it, or when its normal for that matter

i didnt get a single snow run all winter. momentum is key. u need to keep as much speed as u can on steep climbs, and when it starts to slide dont touch the breaks just hammer it and counter steer:driver: are there any good places to get a snow run around here? im not talking 6-8" at least 2'.

2'....in NC.....are you serious¿!.....bwahahahahaha yea right man...sorry lol not here

You can laugh, but it does happen.
When I was a Junior at App (I guess this was Winter of '98?), one afternoon the skies opened and it dumped. And dumped. and dumped. We got 2' in 24 hrs. They closed the whole town, university and all, enforced mandatory indoor restrictions. Roomy and I got yelled at by somr cops just for trying to drive on the street.
It was crazy. My wife literally lost her car in a drift.
