Well this gets asked a million times but it seems like favorite tires change liek the flavor of the week. I just finished Solid axle swaping my tacoma and am in the market for some bigger meats. im runnin 33x12.50 TSL bias plays right now and they are on there last leg plus there to small. I love how well TSLs do off road but on road leaves much to be desired. That being said i need some input on tires that just work down here in the south on the mud and rocks. im looking from 35-37" range and shooting for $200ish a tire. I have looked at 36x12.50 TSLs but dont know if i want the short mileage. How are radial TSLs and Iroks other than there thinner sidewalls. When they say thin is that thin like a BFG MT or weaker? I need something that flat out works off road but i wont have to replace in a few thousand miles. any input on trxus mts or whatever or am i just gonna have to sacrifice mileage to get the performance i want. Whats everyone running. hoping to order end of the week or so. Thanks guys

Anything real aggressive is going to wear fast on the road. I am running 35" Mickey Thompson MTZ's and am very pleased. They ride great on the road and work very well on the trail. No problems at Tellico, Gulches or URE. They are not the best in deep thick mud but I'm not much into mud. When I go up to 37's and will buy another set mainly because I do drive to and from the trail. I had MTR's before and I like these much better on & off road. My 2 cents.

I have Mickey Thompson Baja Radials. They are very good off-road, especially in the mud. Road noise and harshness is at a minimum for how aggressive they are. Can't say how well they wear as I only have 1000 miles on them, they do have really deep tread so they should last.

I hav been impressed with Mike's MT Baja MTZ's. A great all-around tire.

If you plan on driving on road alot, TSL's are not great, it is hit or miss if you actually get a round one. I have had two sets of Irok's, neither has been balanced, and both sets ride just fine (other than flat spots for the first little bit from sitting). TSL's will probably last longer than bias ply Iroks, but don't expect much out of either (maybe 15K miles?)

yea i have done the TSL thing with these 33s i have and know they suck on the road but they are amazing offroad and im afraid that having them and being used to them off road i dont know if i will be satisfied with a performance from a MTZ or MT/R or BFG mud...

On my taco I run the BFG MT and I have about 30k miles on them so far. By looking at the tread I'd guess they are ok for 10k-15k more. They are a good dual purpose tire. I don't wheel my taco anymore but they've seen their share off trail action and I was always happy with them. Also, another guy in my club runs the 35" version and he does well.

I bought mine from discount tire and I've been happy with both the price and warranty. I've replaced two of them. Once because of a nail and once because of a sidewall cut that didn't go all the way through.

yea i think i have about talked myself into a less aggressive more street friendly tire. meaning BFG MTs, or MT/R or MTZ. the MT/Rs are on back order tho and hav been for a while so that will probably rule them out. any other tire in that category i should consider.

The new BFG MT2's will be coming out soon, but in 17's first. MT's are decent all-around, get the warranty and a full-size spare, and go wheel.

MT/R's will ride nicer, but they've never seemed to work well at all without lots of wheelspin.

yea i know the new ones are coming out but i know it wont be till fall or later and my TSLs are a hazard in the rain from the factory especially being as bald as tehy are now so i need to do something. probably go MTs just because they are tried and true. ride isnt that important because all of these are radials and im coming from a Bias TSL so my trucks gonna ride like a caddy.

Haha! yeah j/k. I think the MTs will be a good choice. ive known a couple people that have had them and i never heard anything bad from them.
