The vehicle - '96 Chevy 1500, SAS Leaf Spring Conversion, Dana 60 front from an '01 Dodge 2500 converted to leaf springs. It does have a trac bar with bushings on both sides. No steering stabilizer. DOM steering with Heims.
Problem: Shake starts at 25 mph. I have had death wobble on both my dodge rams, and it is not uncontrollable wobble like that, just a shake. It would be hard to drive any faster than 25 though.
Tire History for the last 4 years:
1. 41" Irok Radials, no shake or DW ever
2. 44" Gumbo Monster Mudders on 15 x 14" wheels with 2" backspacing, shake started at 25 mph
3. 46" Michelin X on 20 x 10 wheels, no shake or DW ever
4. 44" TSL on 15 X 10 rims with 2.5" backspacing, shake starts at 25mph
Front axle parts replaced - both unit bearings, left side ball joints, heims in steering.
What else can I do to fix this? I'm going to do the right side ball joints next. The trac bar bracket on the frame side could possibly be loose so I'll check it. I just can't understand how 46" Michelins that weight like 220lbs each without a wheel don't shake but 44" TSLs do.
