Got home from Virginia over the weekend, parked the truck and saw a nice wood screw in the sidewall about 1/2" from the tread shoulder. Pulled it out and plugged it. I've always followed the general rule that sidewall damage equals tire replacement....due to the sidewall flex and lack of belt structure like the tread. Just wondering what this group thinks. This is not the offroad toy but rather the family hauler, trailer pulling Silverado. I'm inclined to get the bigger tires I've been wanting since I bought this thing....it has the minimal sized tires installed by the used car dealer.

Tire is junk as far as I'm concerned. There is no question when it involves my wife and little girl. Now I will ride some sketch stuff but not with the fam.

My general rule is if its still in the tread (even the tread on the edge of the sidewall) ill run it on my own junk. Customers tires dont get plugged if they arent in the part touching pavement.

Unthread screw, put black RTV on screw, reinsert screw, torque to spec. For hi temperature racing tire applications, use hi-temp orange RTV.

Get it vulcanized. Just tell em it's for an offroad rig

Had 3 of the military 37's on my 4runner patched in the sidewall. Buddy did it and they have been fine.

That said, I wouldn't do it on a vehicle my family was going to be in.
