I need tires for my 99 E350 7.3 van, its got 245/75 16 E rated tires on it right now and they are in need of replacement. I started checking around and pricing tires. This is a 2 wd drive work van(srw), that I have loaded down pretty good. It will probably end up as my tow vehicle for my buggy for the time being. The 245's are rated at 3025 per tire, I can step up to a 265's and get the rating up to 3500 per tire(may help mileage a little also). I've been running Michilins on all the 1/2 ton vehicles around the house, figured I'd ask around to see what luck other people are having with this size of tire. I don't need an all terrain type of tire, just a road tire that will hold up to weight. Any recommendations?

BTW, anyone have a set of wheels to fit this thing for sale(standard 8 lug, non metric)? From what I've heard, the factory Ford aluminum wheels had issues, I got steels and dog dish on there now, wouldn't mind sprucing it up a bit

im running nitto dura grapplers on my dodge 3500 and love em.
guess i have around 25k on them and their not showing much wear but i rotate every oil change.
Firestone Transforce
I've got a Dodge 3500 I haul fairly heavy w/. I just wore out a set of Firestone Transforce at 27k miles and were perfectly happy w/ them except I thought I should have gotten more miles out of them. I replaced them w/ the Nitto Dura Grapplers less than 500 miles ago and have been happy so far. I hope mine aren't showing much wear at 25k. I'd like to get 40k out of them but we'll see.

I have a 99 cummins that I rutinely tow 10k plus I had the Nitto Dune Grapplers and got 45k miles out of them they are LR E not sure of the weight but I was surprised how long they lasted. I also have a set of chrome steel dodge rims 16" that I wouldn't mind selling but you probably don't want dodge hubcaps on the ford.

45k that sounds awesome. I'd love to see that many miles out of mine. Firestones and the Grapplers are price w/in a couple dollars of each other so flip a coin. Glad I changed the grapplers look cooler.

Just make sure you keep the air pressure right and I Usually rotated every 10k miles but at the end of the 45k they were absolutly bald so to be safe I would say they probably would have still passed inspection at 38-40k miles, the Dune grapplers aren't good in any mud but they don't throw rocks like my friends who have the terra grapplers.

If you want something that is better in the mud I would look at the mastercraft courser c/t its what we run on our duallys which haul 30k lbs on average. I've never remembered how many miles we get on them but they work really well

reread what I asked, I don't need an off road or mud tire, just a highway tire, its a 2wd drive van and the last time we got snow down here, it melted in about two hours. I'd like to see what some one is running on a 1 ton wrecker, work bed or similar loaded truck, most pickups don't have anywhere near the weight I have in my van(loaded with tool boxes, shelves, and parts). Thanks for the input. Stunt man, are you near Pittsboro?

Still happy with my Terra Grapplers. Around 10k now, towing the majority of that with the rears carrying something like 3300# ea.

Yeah I'm kinda near pittsboro, the dune grapplers will look good and from my experiance last a long time if you want just a straight road tire I used to run Maxxis 751's on my truck towing and driving the same i got about the same mileage as my Nitto's. Our duallys have the mastercrafts in the back but we run Maxxis on the fronts and they always wear really well and last long. I don't think you could go wrong with either one.

Not to hijack the post, but....

Anyone ever run the Cooper AT/3s? The are a 50k mile tire supposedly. I will need shoes soon and was thinking about them.

Anybody else have anything to add to this? Wildcountrys have a probably 20K on them, and gotta get something. Probably should have failed inspection, but they knew I was on the lookout for a new set of treads.

Looking for a decent all around tire. Running 265/75/16s E range. Occasionally tipping scales at 17K pounds... But only short hauls, maybe 20 miles max round trip

Terra grapplers sound good, but not everybody gives them rave reviews? Some say BFG all terrains. Too many choices, and I need to get the best bang for my $.

not sure but it look's like their could be some confusion with dura grapplers and dune grapplers.
the dura's are better suited to heavy loads on hwy.

No confussion here I had the dune grapplers on my truck and several of my friends have had and still have the dura grapplers. And in my own experiance and my friends my dunes lasted longer than their duras and I pull heavy loads more often than my friends. The terra grappler is another nitto tire that does good its an all terrain tread and the biggest complaint from people I have talked to that run em say that they throw rocks up on the body real bad but lasted pretty decent. Hope this clears up any confussion from my posts.

I just replaced the Michelin tires on my F250 4x4 crewcab diesel. They were a little over two years old with 88,000 miles on them. Of course I replaced them with the 285/75/16 Michelin's just like them but turned the blackwalls out this time. This is my 4th set on the truck (364,000 miles total) but is the most miles I have gotten out of a set of Michelin's. You can't beat the smooth ride and high mileage they deliver. These are load range D.

i have a set of 265/75 r16 d range sport kings on my dd right now with 65k on them.i bought them in 2004.they have enough tread to last another year but there starting to weather crack.

Which Michelins are they?

I've got the Nitto Dura Grapplers on my Dodge with approx 28K on them. I would guestimate they will last another 15 - 20K for a total of 43k - 48k so I am very pleased.

I rotate every 10k without question and have no cupping what so ever.

Call Brandon @ Rides...that's where I got mine. Nitto has recently come out with a new tire which is a little more agresive than the Dura but still a highway tire and it looks good but I cannot remember the name.

How do the dura grapplers preform off the road? I dont need a mud tire. But need a little bit of extra traction. 18' triaxle steel deck trailer is sittin in a bottom that holds water pretty good with a uphill pull just to get hooked up. Also use the truck to pull logs occasionally.

+1 I'm running the AT2's Ive put 28k on them they were on the truck when I got them. Still well over half tread.
Yes they cost more.
But when they last double...ride smoother it is worth it in my opinion.

I do Mike and really like them. I have 16000 on them so far and they still look brand new. Bill can hook you up.
