Ok guys, I'm giving up on the Ford 6.0. Two different trucks, third turbo, it's starting to squeal like the others.
I've looked at the 6.4 in an 08 F450, but the mileage sucks. I met a guy with one, he said it is very strong, but gets 10 mpg driving or towing. The new 6.7 is supposed to be a powerhouse, but it's made by Ford just like the 6.0, and it costs $10k more.
I don't like the soft ride of a Chevy, but the Duramax/Allyson combo is strong.
The Cummings is great, but the automatic tramsmissions have a reputation of being weak (Go manual?)
I'd like your opinions, I need a dually at least one ton or more.

The new 6.4 mileage problem can be fixed by deleting the DPF, its illegal, but it robs the engine of so much mileage potential, same goes for LMM Duramaxs and 6.7 Cummins. The newer Dodge 68RE auto tranny is stronger than even the Allison in the Duramaxes.
And just a little correction for you Ford did NOT build the 6.0, but ford is building the new 6.7.
If you don't like the "soft" ride of a GM, level it out that will fix that problem fast:lol:

go buy a cummins witha 68re, theyre gettin better reviews than allisons, just dont go buy a 48re, im on my 3rd one in 40k miles

I absolutely love my chevy with Duramax/Allison. I have a bone stock crew cab dually 4x4 and have never had any trouble. I dont pull empty very often, but it gets about 17 mpg empty, about 11 or 12 pulling a 12,000lb trailer.

3rd gen 5.9L Cummins with a 6-speed. Nuff said.

And the newer autos (3rd gen) are much better than the older ones. But if it's a tow rig, the 6-speed manual is king.

The newer Dodge 68RE auto tranny is stronger than even the Allison in the Duramaxes.

What year did Dodge start using the 68RE behind the Cummins?

The 47re in my 01 cummins has 162k hard ass miles are is still holding it down
