I bought a TJ about 2 years ago. I bought it from a friend, had the title signed and notarized but never planned to drive it so like an idiot I procrastinated on sending it off. I finally got around to it back in September only to find that a mouse chewed the corner of the title (it was in the glove box). Raleigh rejected the title and sent me an MVR3 form to have filled out again by the PO. I did all that, had it notarized again and sent it off. And I'm still waiting. I've called the DMV 3 different times, waited on hold for 20 minutes to speak with someone and they tell me they will try to "escalate processing" for this.

I need the title back because I want to sell this TJ now. Is there anything else I can do? Anyone dealt with something like this? When i do the login thing on the DMV site I can see each vehcile I own, and this TJ even shows up but the title doesn't. So they have it and know its SUPPOSED to belong to me but isn't complete. Can I drive to Raleigh and straighten this out or am I just screwed and have to wait at their mercy?

Redo the forms and go to a DMV that you can get an instant title for maybe? But that is only 2 places, Raleigh and Charlotte that I know of that are able to do it.

There are certain things they won't instant title for though that form might cause them to not do it.

If your friend can go with you, thats the best bet to sort it out right then, but it will cost some money i'm sure.

Problem is the PO lives 4 hours away one way :(

When'd you get a boat and why aren't we enjoying lattes on High Rock???

I sent off the title for my truck in November 2020 and it took like 5-6 months to get the physically paper back, but it showed up on the website several months earlier.

Not real sure about that but I figured this was going to be something more important. Like most titles I've dealt with I've had to live by the mantra, "to be the man, you gotta beat the man". It worked for my buddy Ric numerous times. If I ever have questions about titles I usually give him a shout.

Only peasants hang at High Rock. My boat is stored on Lake Norman, if you don’t wheel like a poon next weekend perhaps I’ll invite you out.

I don't think there's anything you can do about it now, but you could have just taken it to the tag office and gotten an instant title.

Not sure if it will help with Phillip's problem, but for future reference there are almost 30 offices that do instant titles now.

Oh wow. I remember when it was just Raleigh and then they added charlotte. Now I’m feeling old 😂

I remember when it was just Raleigh and Charlotte, and for some reason it doesn't seem that long ago. Might be a "Thanks Covid!" moment

is it too early to ask the specs on the wrangler........ I have been looking for what seems to be years :laughing:

Well to tease you even more, it’s a fairly clean, low mileage 03 model with a 4.0, manual trans. Sport model with a few things done to it. Only 104k miles.

Wish this thread would have taken place about 8 weeks ago. Never knew there was an instant title, or an online view, or that walk in was more efficient than online. Donating a vehicle I can’t find the title to…really wanted the donation on 2021 taxes…oh well. Website says 15 days before review will even begin. Sent off my MVR-4 form a little before thanksgiving, mid-December I get a rejection letter for a duplicate form because either I dated and shouldn’t have, or the notary did or the dates didn’t match…something along those lines. Didn’t get my $21.50 back though. Filled out the form again, sent in another $21.50…and I’m sitting at the three week mark hoping I’ll see a duplicate title any day now, which doesn’t sound likely.

When I bought my TJ last year, I had to do the same thing as the original title was lost. The previous owner and I filled it all out and his neighbor was the notary. I sent it off and it took 7 months to get it back. My aunt works at DMV in Raleigh and she told me the dept that does those forms is extremely behind.

How is the frame rust?

How is the body rust?

Does anything need to be fixed?

The rust is non existent. I’ve checked the frame with the old screwdriver test all over. And the body has zero rust as well.

It could use a little TLC like it needs a battery, some wiring for aftermarket lights and stuff that used to be on it could be gone thru and removed, and it has death wobble but that could really just be the tires/alignment. It was a wheeler but got put side by side on lifts with a stock LJ and everything was swapped for stock that could be. Since then it just got driven around a farm for a while and then parked due to the fuel pump going bad. It hasn’t been aligned and the tires haven’t been balanced. It has a brand new track bar and all the steering is tight. So I figure that’s all it is.

Back when Covid started I did drive it quite a bit. I added insurance and just enjoyed cruising around on the back roads with the kids. It did not have death wobble then.
I intended to keep this for my daughter to drive but that’s still 6 years away and it’s just sitting here.

My understanding is similar. A normal title comes back in 2-3 weeks, which is what I experienced with my truck and car last year. But anything that makes it not straight forward, be it salvage, lost, or anything like that there is only a handful of folks at the main DMV that handle it so it takes forever.

Nice looking jeep. I'll give you $1500 for it.

And it comes with the obligatory driver's side dent in the cowl.
Because of that - I'll give you $1k.

Yup. It seems every wrangler that gets wheeled gets that. That one came from Harlan actually. Upper Profanity to be exact. The Jeep still has a lot of good parts on it.
